There is 1 out.......as a result of the play, the Batter is out on the catch for out 2.....Runner on 3rd scores on a classic time play........runner previously on first is out on "the appeal" for not tagging up.......3 outs.....

(When an appeal is made that a runner did not tag up after a fly ball is caught, it is never a force play.)

Rules 4.09 and 2.00 in OBR cover rules on Force plays.

Rule 9.01C is NOT applicable to this play. 9.01C is applicable to situations that the rule book does NOT cover. The Rule book is oddly written and poorly compiled, it is very complete.

Rule 9.01C is often called the "Crutch of Bad Umpires".....there are rules to cover most all situations.

Rule 9.01C - an example of when properly used was when Randy Johnson threw a fastball that killed a bird.
