I have personally never understood the contstant "debate" on the best conference. If the CWS is the ultimate goal and if the "best" team wins it (big if) then the CWS would be the "benchmark". If you take a look at CWS history, it is not Totally DOMINATED by one particular conference. Perhaps the Pythagorean Record (based on pythagorean theorem-something Boyd looked at awhile back) would be the best indicator of conference. It might be slightly flawed because of the small number of games played. IMHO "best recruiting class" is "perfume on a pig" because the data does not support "best recruiting class"=CWS win.
The team that takes the CWS has a number of "immeasurables" most notably "heart" which as we all know, cannot be measured by any known data!
