Sorry, I overlooked this the first time. September 1 is the first day schools can send recruiting materials to juniors. Your son is a senior, so there's no significance for him.
My 2015 is working through the process with several schools. He sent his unsolicited video to a specific DIII in a personalized e-mail (not boilerplate) to the HC and RC. He received a phone call from the HC the next day with an invitation to visit. HC told him that he had looked at 700+ videos over the summer and that 2015's was one of the few that caught his attention. You just never know.
Also, if he's being offered visits/workouts I would not take that with too much salt. They aren't going to waste their time doing that if they aren't interested. They may be busy with fall-ball and October is a good recruiting time for them. I suggest that your son should be calling and e-mailing these folks if he has interest in those schools. They want guys who want to be there.
