Shoulder pain when throwing ...

Son is a 21-year-old LHP. He's had intermittent pain in his throwing shoulder, but only when throwing the ball as hard as he can. He went to the orthopedist today, and the doctor could not recreate the pain in his office. He has full range of motion, and dr. says that means it can't be the labrum. Supposed to have the MRA in the next few days, and has arranged to take a week off (last week before playoffs) in the meantime. Just wondering whether anyone else's pitcher has had the same problem? Am thinking maybe this is a sore spot waiting to tear, which is why he still has full range of motion. He also tends to have a rather high threshold for pain, which could be disguising a bigger problem. Thoughts?
