I can't see them "forcing" that kid to pitch, but they might force a pitching change.

In our case the (new) pitcher had to pitch to the hitter....not one pitch but througout the first hitters whole at bat. That is the part I did not understand, and still don't. I was going to have him throw one pitch and then bring in another pitcher. The umpire would not allow it.

The rule applied is why....read 3.05 b...the substitiute ptcher shall pitch to the batter then at bat or any substitiute batter until such batter is put out or reaches first base....
so one pitch does not qualify...
