Reply to "Speed Improvement for the 60"

The facily that most people have is that exercises they do in the weight room translates to the athletic field. People talk all the time about doing a bench press or a squat and "exploding" while doing it to gain fast twitch muscle fibers or whatever. It is all hokey. By doing a squat and trying to explode will not help you get faster in the 60. It might help your legs get stronger, but exploding has no more a gain than doing it under control. The question above was how do you improve your 60 time. Jumping on boxes, or running with sleds will get you better... with jumping on boxes and running with a sled. Basiclly is comes down to specificity of exercise. If you want to run the 60 better, lift your legs( extensionns, curls, presses) and practice running the 60. By practicing your start time and form running that will help your 60. The lifting aspect is a whole different long topic...
