Reply to "Stories of Late-Blooming Pitchers"

Thought I would catch you all up on how Jr is progressing. This was a break out year for him in many ways. His role on our decent HS team was as the "mid-week starter". He wanted to be taking the bump against the conference power house teams, but we had stronger seniors for that. Nevertheless, he went in and did his job. Finished with an ERA of 1.07, good enough for 3rd best in the conference (got passed for 2nd on the second to last day). He is still velocity challenged, topping out at 80, but has great control, a swing and miss change, and a CB that he can throw in the dirt or for strikes. He is 6 2+ and still only 160 lbs dripping wet. Should be more growth coming. There is hope that with meat on his frame he'll be able to push up the velo and catch the attention of ODAC type programs.

He'll be top of the rotation next year. Given velo challenges, we are mostly focused on D3 schools that have decent academic programs. He is a good, but not off-scale student.

He's living the late-bloomer scenario, and is working hard hoping that there is more blooming to come.
