Yes, Odessa Permian is the same school. Lots of pressure in that town to win but multiply that by dozens in Texas and you see how this can occur. All it takes is a coach willing to look the other way or cover things up and there you have it. Don't know if its that way everywhere but it seems especially in Texas that a town is sometimes measured by how often its teams win football championships. I live close to a 2A and a 3A school that have been perennial champions since the early 1970's and I think these towns and certainly their fans get a lot of their self respect from this fact. Sometimes this can lead to abuses if you get a coach in there under extreme pressure to win. For the most part, in these two towns I think things have been on the up and up so far as I know.
