Makes sense to me! This will protect the "over recruited" student athlete from unwanted emails and undue pressure from over agressive coaching staffs. I always though the use of emails and IM was skirting the contact rules. How will it be enforced? The same way the majority of enforcement happens now. The compliance office of the colleges will report their own wrongdoings and/or the student athlete will blow the whistle on the colleges. While my son and your son may not feel unwanted pressure from recruiting, there are those that feel a lot of pressure from college coaches that hound the talented recruit to attend “my college”.
The recruited student athletes doesn't need to know the contact rules. Like phone calls, I'm sure the student athlete can make all he wants whenever he wants. The rules govern the colleges and are in place to protect the student athlete not control the student athlete.
