Timing National Letter of Intent and Admission Application

You get your NLI in November of your senior year.  How does that coordinate with applying to the college?

Do you need to apply before they send you the NLI?  I’m guessing not since there’s a “Declaring Your NLI Null and Void” Provision in the NLI if you do not gain admissions into the university.

But, there’s also an “athletic aid/athletic scholarship agreement” with the NLI, right? So, they send that to you before you ever apply to the school?

Related, does the coach contact or work with the admissions department before you even apply to make sure he’s not wasting his time with the NLI to make sure that you will get into the school?  Or, is that on the student to make sure that he’s talking with a coach where he’s going to be able to get into that school once he applies?

Bottom line, if you are committed and you are getting a NLI, when should you be applying to the school?
