My son has played rec and travel the last 5 years. There really isn't any comparison. All of the bad things that are brought up abut travel, politics, daddyball, over use of pitchers, player attitudes are all magnified at the rec level.
The only benefit is that you get to play with your buddies. But 99% of them will never play HS ball.
