Guys, I'm a new poster to this forum but I've been reading it for a while. You are all AWESOME in you rules explanations!
I am hoping that you can explain this one to me. Last Saturday, during the warm-up between innings, I walked to the mound to coach my pitcher a little (13u). The umpires told me that there are some in the league that would consider that a mound visit.
In the 38 years I have been around baseball (playing/umpiring/coaching) I have NEVER heard that. Is there a rule in the books to support that position? What are your takes on that interpretation?
Thanks!
If in the umpire's judgment you are holding up the game, he can charge you with a conference. However, if he is throwing his warmups at a decent pace and your talking is not interfering, and you leave (usually with two to go or balls in) and there is no delay, most umpires will let this go.
Since I was not there, hard to say if I would judge your actions from the story would warrant charging a conference.
