Just for clarification purposes, I was at the mound for 2 or 3 pitches, and told my pitcher to concentrate on his mechanics. That was it. Then I headed back toward the dugout. We are playing under NFHS rules, with modified distances for pitchers mound (54.6 feet) and base distances (80 feet).

Your explanations and rule citations gave me the clarification I needed.
