Why is this news? It says in the article laws weren’t broken. The money went to the university and not to a person. How is it different than kids of rich parents with mediocre grades getting admitted to schools all over the country including Ivies.
How many people were unaware wealthy people can buy their way in before the current athletic scandal? There might be one uninformed person under a rock somewhere. The real issue is does anyone want to do anything about it?
I believe it should be illegal at state universities. They use public money. But is what private universities do their own business? These people buying their way in with donations to the university aren’t receiving federally funded financial aid.
