UCLA is not unlike many urban schools. There are just too many buildings on the campus proper to take up space for a baseball field and all that it entails with parking and clubhouses, etc. UC Riverside's stadium is off campus as well (tho not as far away as UCLA's.)
The field has been there for quite some time, and altho I am not part of that program, I think I can be pretty safe in saying that they aren't likely to replace it with a campus location unless real estate prices take a major nose dive in the near future.
