When to apply for admission?

Should prospective student athletes apply for admission at the schools they've narrowed their list to on the same timetable as non-athletes?

So many schools have the early admission thing in the fall now, and I'm just not clear about whether we should be proceeding with that while the recruitment dance is happening. I guess you wouldn't want to wait until spring to apply, if your son hasn't been picked up during the fall early signing period, but, just curious about that part of school selection.

What did the rest of you do?
