I think you must be right (regarding an adjustment period for freshmen). I noticed Tennessee started a freshman pitcher in their second game. He was a highly touted third round draft pick but decided to go the college route instead. I think he gave up 5 or 6 runs in 2 innings before they pulled him.

I was thinking about his mom.

Having a son that is a college freshman pitcher, I am considering taking up smoking... maybe carrying a flask to games....

Now my son most likely will not hit the mound that quickly. But when he does....any suggestions from Moms out there?
