Why A Two Piece Bat?

All I ever hear is:

The connector broke, or

The barrel cracked, or

The end cap came off, or

You can't use it under 45 degrees, or

The bat cost $450.

Why bother with all that? Just for a perceived advantage in ball exit effect?
