Reply to "Why College Bats Disappeared from the Top of the Draft - Baseball Prospectus"

Most of the top hitters in high school that are well known end up getting drafted early and don't go to college. If they did go to college they would be early draft picks out of college.

You can dream big on a great HS hitter that has shown he can hit top level pitching. Think MVP types, or those considered the top hitters these days.  While some have come out of college the very best seem to come straight out of HS (Trout, Cabrerra, McCutchen, ARod, Mauer, Hamilton, Votto, Jeter). Some used to come out of Juco when the draft and follow was still be used (Pujols).

Yes, there are still some great hitters that have come out of college, but the majority of the very best hitters come out of HS.  So you be the scout, where do you think the next great hitter will come from?
