Kris plays for the Jupiter Hammerheads, Marlin High A. He told me his dad was now a pitching coach for them. Bryan Harvey would help work with pitchers at Clemson when Kris was there, really nice, down home North Carolina type of guy. He was always so positive with DK.

If it's our day in the "barn" we hit. Out county fairground committee let's our baseball and softball teams use a barn at the fairgrounds to hit in. We alternate days with softball. We got two cages and enough room to run soft toss, Tee and other drills around and two indoor mounds for the pitchers. We can get a lot of work done in there. If it's softball's day in the barn then we either go to the parking lot with yellow dimple balls (if it's not raining) and have an almost full practice OR...

it was from a local strongest man competition...tore something in shoulder and i thought they said Rotator Cuff. Labrum might have also been said but it's been 12 years or so and I forget...and then a coach got suspended (baseball) for letting players make up exercises with items laying around the baseball field barn area and a kid got hurt (shoulder) throwing tires. (the latter NOT being supervised by adults).... at least not properly.

Here's my plan... First, erect something of a pole barn with roof covering a 50ft wide. x 70 ft long. of ground space. 4 rows of 6 support polls would run the 70ft. length being roughly 12ft. apart. Each row would be 15ft. apart effectively creating 3 cages...with an overhang on one side for tee stations. 2. Around the bottom I pour a concrete pad, probably 55ft. x 75ft. I would cover the whole pad with some mid-grade astro turf. Good enough to last, cheap enough to fit the budget. 3. In the...

Thanks to everyone for their input. My son's goal since he was around 8 has been to play at our local university and beyond. He's always been talented and works hard. I don't think we should blame ALL the coaches. I see it more with the organization and the manager. Also, in general the coaches coach and yes they have egos. But they are not the reason the system is screwed up. Baseball like all sports is now a business. You have facilites opening all the time, private lessons, training programs, camps, teams, etc. The horse is out of the barn. I think in time things will work themselves out, however we are in for some crazy times first. Look at all the...

Here too! Son's school just signed another '05 player this Tuesday. The important thing is to be SURE it's the right fit for you before giving a verbal. I know of a couple of players that had barn-burner seasons their Senior year and said they wish they had waited for more options. Ya just never know. Do your homework and IMO don't let $$$'s be the only reason you choose a school. PS, Bullwinkle, though I must say the Green & Gold looked good on you, it's nice to see you back in antlers!

According to OPP, he painted a bull's eye on the side of the barn so Zach could throw at the target. Guess that wherever there is a will there is a way. In Key West (much less populated than Miami/Dade metro area)the HS team (only one) has to travel for hours to play other HS teams, yet they tend to produce some very talented players, ex. Khalil from the Padres).

I've tried to stay out of discussion since... My 2 cents, I've never taught a player to push off of their back foot. In hitting, I never thought about it. Is there some resistance? Sure, and the same as walking or ... However, I think that purposly thinking push off is similar to those other "thoughts" that impede the swing process. Long story short. One of my Dads brought in an instructor in the winter/spring of 2006. The Dad owns a barn and our team hits there every winter. One primary...

Coach, I actually teach the "Elvis" move, but I teach to use the big toe and pad of the big toe to push off of to get the knees moving. The front knee moves the hips closed and the back knee moves them back forward. Once the bat is in position to go forward and the hips are fully open, I teach to punch the back knee in the direction of the hit. Now...I guess that can be characterized as pushing with the glutes, hamstrings or pulling with them. Here is how I teach hip rotation; I put a 5...

Athleticism, arts, and intelligence are not influence by the location of where one is born. While a resident of Minnesota may excel at lacrosse, a Floridian may be a better baseball player. lafmom, coach merc, pgstaff and others have made great comments IMO. Coaching on a level playing field for many years brings out the best coaches very quickly. In a high school situation where you can't recruit, you had better make a difference as a coach. In a district where the talent is pretty even, some exceptions of course, all facets of the game are important. One thing we are all forgetting here is Preparation. It is such a key in this game and it separates the good coaches from the...

Long toss has been generally accepted as a method for increasing arm strength for a long time now. Jaeger developed a system for long toss that has worked for many. He has many "poster boys". I've seen pitchers use many different forms of long toss and most successful pitchers don't really use long distances (over 120'). Others have thrown 300' or more, even as far as they possibly can. I first saw weighted balls being used about 15 years ago. I didn't see any significant improvement in that...

Second day was usually in our indoor hitting "facility" (an old pig barn we could hang up nets). Little bit of instruction but really just...

Once the machine starts calling balls and strikes, I can't wait to sit through those inevitable 9-0 games in the 7th or 8th inning when the losing team's 5th reliever can't hit the broad side of a barn. Will the machine have a "mercy setting" that widens the zone several inches in each direction so that we can all get home before the next day's game begins? It seems many forget that scouts and recruiters are recruiting prospects for the future. It really seams logical to me that it means very little how they performed against others at a days event. Most times they are trying to determine what potential a player has 3-4yrs down the road. Only the top top players are ready to contribute at the next level as a freshman or 18-19yr olds in the pro's. Next time you see an average built 18yr old senior RHP.
