3rdgen- Good point. The reason I brought up Santana in the previous post: I was invited by a friend to a Mets-Rockies game at Citi Field in the end of August. I got BP passes to the game because my friend's dad is the bench coach for the Mets. As I was standing there watching BP I was chatting with my friend's dad and we were watching Carlos Gonzalez playing pepper with the bleachers. I made a comment about how unbelievable his swing was and he pointed at Ike Davis, who stood about 15 feet...

TR, I don't know if I'll ever make it to Citi Field, but I sure have to agree with you, isn't it a joy to watch Johann Santana? His pitching was truly a thing of beauty when he was here in Minnesota with the Twins. We miss him! Julie

You got it right, this is their time to get on the swag. 2011gradmom has got it right too, why not just say something positive, he is going to be around for a very long time. As for the haircut, my son wears the same, his preference over the long hair look.

Ivy League gets 13 drafted

Each year the Ivy League brings in roughly 56 players; while the majority of players moving into proball are drafted as seniors, roughly 12% of Ivy players move on to proball. http://yaledailynews.com/downthefield/2017/06/14/ivy-baseball-at-the-2017-mlb-draft/ The overwhelming number of the remaining 88% move on to very, very high paying jobs. Clearly CEO's pay IS part of it. A non-gov't run entity head will always get paid more than a gov't run entity head. Watch what these latest executive pay restrictions are going to do to AIG, Citi and the like. No top exec can be paid more than $200k in TOTAL comp? What qualified exec in their right mind would take a top job in one of those companies for that? That exec pay czar is going to far and is going to put the companies they bailed out, out of business. Re: Public funds for NY stadiums

My biggest complaint on this topic is the Citi name for the Mets stadium. We, the taxpayers, have just turned over another huge payment which will allow the bank to be split into 2 entities. One will be the "good" bank and the other the "bad bank". With our money, this bank that has now been, for all intents and purposes, nationalized by the government, will be paying money to the Mets for the right to hang a sign on the ballpark. What's wrong here and who's in charge? Change, I don't see...

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. The fallback is going to Hoboken, parking and taking the PATH. But having lived in Hoboken, parking close to impossible. If it were me, I'd drive into Manhattan via Verrazano Bridge, then Belt Parkway into Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, then park ANYWHERE in the financial district. Then a cab or Uber to whereever. HEY: if you're going in that direction, get to Citi Field for Cubs at Mets.

Agreed. His game doesn't translate as well to cavernous Citi Field, Park, whatever. He hit a bunch of 340 foot homers over the Green Monster that will be long outs in NY. He did OK covering tiny LF in Fenway. He doesn't have the wheels or arm for a big outfield, though. If he hit .300 I'd miss him. He might be the new Mo Vaughn for the Mets.

Mets said: "there is no Tebow merchandise available at Citi Field. Nor will there be, unless Tebow reaches the Majors" but then they also said: "a fan can request a custom jersey at Citi Field with Tebow’s name and No. 15 on it, just as a fan can request his or her own name. The Mets do not split that revenue with other Clubs" nice loophole .

I was born and raised as a O's fan (fortunately I'm old enough for that not to have been a horrible experience) but I've lived my adult life in NL markets (LA, SF, NY) so I follow and prefer NL baseball. True, pitchers hitting can be comic, except when they're not (for example Bumgarner), and sometimes you get to see something really, really special, as I did last season in my first game at Citi Field when Syndergaard shut out the Reds in CG win, and drove in the only run of the game with a...

It sounds a lot better than "Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium." They are not even an Iowa business. I always wonder how much business is generated by the field name changes. In the Dale and Thomas Popcorn case, I had to look them up. I never heard of them before, so that may have been what they were looking for. But I know the companies that purchased the rights for Citi Field, AT&T Park and a host of others. What's the point? Do they get free suites that are...

I think this is exactly right. I've not attended a game at Citi yet, but I went to a lot of games at Shea and (old) Yankee and IMO Game #3, if Utley was on the field, would quickly devolve into a something very ugly. So...about 6 or 7 years ago, my son and I were on a Subway train from Queens to Manhattan after watching Mets vs Pirates at Citi Field. It was really late and not many people on the train. I realized the man sitting across from us was Ritchie (he had a Pirates MLB lanyard attached to his backpack) and I struck up a conversation. Coach Ritchie talked to my 9 year old son and I about hitting so intently that he missed his hotel stop. He got off the train with us, had my son demo his swing and...

That is a great story, IndyBall. I passed it on to his wife last night, and she loved it! She is going to share it with Gregg once he gets back from Panama. It a cherry on top, after his team winning the gold. I am sure he will be touched by you remembering that experience and taking the time to share it with the community. Gregg is a great teacher, and my son loves his clinic. Their whole family is wonderful.

As sort of a companion piece, Wapo has a story on Driveline and HSBW member Kyle Boddy: https://www.washingtonpost.com...m_term=.b512f48d0a9e Takeaway Quote: " “The pitching has outpaced the hitting lately,” Boddy said. “But its cyclical. Hitters are always going to be behind, because pitchers initiate the action. But we’re going to see it tilt back eventually.” Boddy doesn’t see Driveline — and its many competitors and collaborators — as ruining the game of baseball, as some would claim. If...

I heard John Miller say a few years ago on a Giants broadcast that his opinion is that Oracle is #1 and Camden Yards is #2. That's good enough for me. The only one I really like that hasn't been mentioned is Safeco, or whatever they call it now. I like Citi Field well enough, but not enough to make it a Top 5. I'd put the new Yankee stadium in the dump category.

At this point I'd much rather drive to Diamond Nation and pay $5 to watch kids I don't know bust their butts than pay $300 to bring my family to Yankee Stadium. And not too long ago we planned our Summer around trips to Fenway/Yankee Stadium/Citi Field and Camden Yards.

So no more great seats at Citi below face value on Stubhub, eh? Damn! Cohen made a good call firing Brodie. I think he also made a good call not firing Rojas, at least so far.
