Re: Top Youth Players

SoCalDadx5 ·
Every Wendesday night in the fall, the top high school kids in So. Cal. play for the Angel Elite against some very good JCs. The competition is pretty even but the overall edge goes to the HS kids. This includes at least one 15YO.

Re: The Home Run that wasn't

Orlando ·
I truly believe Angel Hernandez makes questionable calls or tosses someone to make sure he gets a mention in the media. It's been his pattern for too long. From the day the postseason umps were pulished before the divisional series, problems could be predicted. How sad it is that fans are that familiar with umpires' names......

Re: Sore arm

Loghyr ·
When he was 3 he told us he was seeing double. He didn't really know how to communicate it, but he didn't like it. That probably saved his vision. At this age, he still knows not to mess about with that type of lie. I'm not saying he is an angel, just one of those kids who are rule sticklers. It probably runs in the family. ;> I'm confident now that it is using new muscles. He doesn't like getting on top of the ball and even if I get him to start that way, he'll turn it into a side arm.

Re: Congrats to Mike Trout

like2rake ·
Yeah, huge Angel fan here, and Mike Trout is very exciting. Too bad Tim Salmon isn't still playing....! I believe the Angel's have a future dilemma/opportunity regarding Trout and current rookie CF Peter Bourjos. Bourjos definitely lacks Trout's hit/power potential, but Bourjos has serious, serious speed, covers unbelievable ground in CF, runs great routes to the ball, plays premium defense and is now batting .272 on the year to boot. What if Bourjos blossoms by next season into a legitimate...

OldBatNever - the ornaments are a great idea too! I did that one year for some co-workers and went to a specialty gift shop (although somewhere like a Hallmark would have some) and bought a similar ornament for each person. They were all glass angels, but each one was a little different by holding something that symbolized an event, hobbie, or something special in their lives. Example: I got a girl that traveled all the time one holding an airplane, one that had her first grandchild an angel...

The experience here in Farmington is 1,000 times better then what I expected. I have heard from a lot of people that have been here how great it is, but to experience it first hand is so much better. First of all the people here are what make this event so great. The host families have been wonderful and it is amazing how quickly you form a bond with them. In fact, a few of these families have already made plans to come out to CA and stay with some of our families. They are going to take...

Rob, I knew what you meant but like you said it hard to gauge how much effort your putting in with out something like a radar gun. Also I wouldn't be throwing the ball at the same angel from 20 feet to 200 feet. But with only as 10 foot cieling, its impossible to do that.

Well, I do admire her fire; I keep telling you guys not to mess with The Moms. More deep, cleansing breaths, Keyboards. Practice some Yogi tonight so that tomorrow we not only will be more relaxed and flexible in order to play better ball, but we will be more successful mangling the English language and coming up with some quotes for the ages.

Re: 14 year old in the 80s

Midlo Dad ·
CADad, you have to wonder what the youth leagues were thinking when they backed up the age eligibility date from August 1 to May 1 -- that is, they are going to allow even older boys to play on that 60' square diamond. Looking back at those years when my son played both Little League and travel ball, I have to say that AAU, USSSA and others have it right when they start expanding the diamond to 65', then 70', then (optional) 80', on the way to 90' from ages 11 through 14. The Little League...

PG- Nope, same high school though. I'm a few years younger than Angel. He's another one with an outstanding arm though...I've thrown a few bullpens to him during the off-season and had a pretty sore glove hand after the sessions. He made his MLB debut last year and hopefully will be back up consistently in '10. You guys got the kid I'm talking about at 1.94 and 82 to 2b I believe. Ranked a 9.5, '08

Re: HS vs Summer ROUND 1,500,000

Lclcoach ·
CB25&RZ I agree with both post's. We really have'nt had much of that type of problem in this area. Most of our travel ball coaches support the High School first. I know when my son was in travel ball or even during the Seattle Mariners and Angel elite teams none wanted to step on the high school coaches toes, the school team came first. Now as for the parents in the stands, there are some doozies out there. I have seen the inflated BA and the under inflated ERA's. That is not uncommon.
