Re: Back foot drag, good or bad?

Oops…. forgot to add those darn footnotes. 1) As sometimes happens in times of uncertainty, the well ordered kingdom went slightly berserk for a period. Unquestioning acceptance of authority gave way to the immediacy of seeing for oneself. Of course one can only see what one is capable of seeing and many could not believe their own eyes. Respected experts were called into question; rioting ensued, and random acts of hurling were occurring everywhere. Some days it was total chaos… in theory.

Re: Marmonte League Rankings

I'm guessing the initial rankings are based on last year to a degree. The first update should be interesting. Most everybody in the league has a loss now who has played against decent competition. NP beat a strong team then lost to a weaker team. Royal and Moorpark haven't been tested against strong competition yet. Moorpark's next opponent should be decent. Agoura and Simi both lost but were competitive against decent teams. Calabasas lost to a strong team. Westlake came back from a loss to...

I have not seen some of the teams, but still think that Royal based on their depth and the number of returnees is the team to beat. Moorpark is a very sound team and can play with anyone. Agoura has been playing well also. Agree with you on TO and Westlake. NP got whacked yesterday but the conditions were so horrible anything could have happened. Maybe ProudSocaldad can provide some insight?

NP beat Saugus on a nice pitching performance from a player who is not a primary pitcher but didn't show much hitting once again. Royal had an easy win. Now that pool play is over they may be tested in the tournament they host. 3/11 rankings posted above. They change a lot until the teams get quite a few games in. NP won 3/12 but continues to struggle at the plate. Royal really hasn't been tested yet. Westlake v Chatsworth should be interesting today, 3/13.

Royal continues to be very impressive, albeit v weak teams. NP's pitching continues to look good but where are the bats. Moorpark manages to schedule themselves against Hueneme when they don't have Valdez going. Simi is looking stronger than expected - good coaching can make a difference. We aren't going to have a good idea until they get a ways into the Marmonte schedule.

I just saw the LaTimes HS rankings and Royal is ranked 10, NP 22 and Westlake 23.... My semi-educated guess for the season is: 1. Royal 2. Simi 3. Moorpark 4. NP 5. Westlake 6. TO Royal nor NP have been really tested yet, so who knows how they will hold up against strong competition. http://www.latimes.com/sports/...0315,0,6638601.story

I'll settle for guessing how Wednesday's games will go, with an emphasis on guess: Moorpark v Westlake - Swenson v Cuneo?, two crafty lefties, it should be low scoring but I'll go with Westlake @ Westlake even though Moorpark is the better team. If Cuneo doesn't start I'll go with Moorpark. NP vs TO - Sherfy v Thomson, slight edge to NP but I'd expect Thomson to do well vs NP who hasn't been hitting. Royal v Simi - Gotta go with Royal in the first rivalry game. Agoura v Calabasas - Agoura...

OK....Mr "No prediction" is gonna chime in... My picks for Wednesday: Agoura vs. Calabasas: Agoura . Have a hard time believing that Calabasas has faced Marmonte League "stuff" yet.... Newbury Park vs. Thousand Oaks: Newbury Park . Might be different if Bollar was eligible, but Sherfy should shut down already weakened TO offense. NP error-free defense a must. Royal vs. Simi: Game of the day. Buckel eager to sink his All-American teeth into Marmonte and adrenaline carries the day. Royal...

NP downs TO 9-6. Strong pitching by Sherfy, with one mistake pitch with bases loaded. NP bats finally make their appearance as NP gets on the board early, goes down on a GS in the sixth, and takes back the win with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. TO has some nice bats in the lineup, but their pitching is gonna struggle mightily against most of Marmonte. Time for me to give Calabasas it's due. Don't know much about the team, but they are obviously better than I thought. Gonna keep an...

Prediction based on NP bats showing life and lack of Buckel on the mound...not to mention personal hope on my part Simi vs. Agoura: Simi Simi bounces back against a demoralized Agoura squad still suffering from Calabasas loss. Westlake vs. Calabasas: Westlake Westlake bats prove too much for Calabasas. Westlake pitching shows balance against upstart Calabasas. Moorpark vs. TO: Moorpark Moorpark hitting too much for...

gitnby, funny stuff! Expo '67 was a world's fair type event in Montreal. (Jarry Park) The Expos never won much, but they had a cool cap insignia. I never realized Montreal means Mount Royal. Every National League East guy my age remembers this one from their childhood: "Hey, I got free tickets to the ball game. Wanna go?" "Sure. Who are they playing?" "The Expos." "Awww... I'll try it on the grey pants. I'm still a little leery about the tops with the embroidered lettering. I did a white hat with blue bill one time for son and it turned the bill purple from a royal blue. Although it doesn't affect the pinstripe, so it may be safe.

Here is a question for the umpires on the board who do NHIAA games, I had heard from someone over the past 12 months or so who said that the NHIAA was adding a rule that all players on the bench have to wear outgear that has is the team's color. So jonny can't wear a royal blue pull over on the bench if he is playing for bishop guertin is this accurate?

Moorpark d Agoura WL d Simi NP d Calabasas With league half over it looks like Royal, Moorpark and NP are locks for the playoffs barring a collapse and TO seems to have the advantage over Calabasas and WL. Simi and Agoura look to be out of contention. There may or may not be a fifth playoff spot depending on the overall record of the 5th place team.

Royal d WL Moorpark d NP TO d Agoura Calabasas d Simi Looks like Moorpark has done the same thing that probably kept them from making the playoffs a couple years ago. Moving one of their weekday starters to the bullpen. They got away with it on Tuesday as the replacement starter gave up all 7 runs over 4 innings. The ex-starter struggled with control (probably why he was moved to the pen) but gave up 0 runs over the next couple innings. They have a tendency to try to force pitchers into...

My guess is that Royal and Moorpark will be seeded directly into the playoffs and that NP, TO and WL will have to play "play-in" games. I don't remember if teams have to be .500 overall or better than .500 overall to qualify for the playoffs as a wild card team. (Looking back to last year's posts on this it looks like a .500 overall record is the requirement so WL should be in.) Royal v TO is a somewhat meaningful game for both. Royal probably wants 1st alone and TO would like better seeding...

Let's see with 1 game left in the regular season Moorpark is 1 game out of first. Royal is out of the title hunt but should make the playoffs (play in round) and is playing well right now. Westlake has done poorly over the last few games, no surprise, but is tied for 1st still and has the best draw for their final game. NP is tied for first but has a tough game vs. Simi who is tied with Moorpark 1 game out of first. As stated earlier, anything can happen in the Marmonte league.

1. Westlake 2. Simi 3. NP 4. Moorpark 5. Royal Westlake and Simi will probably go directly into the 1st round of the playoffs. Moorpark and Royal will almost certainly have to play in a play-in game. NP could get in directly or may have to play a play-in game. My guess is a play-in game.
