I am certainly no swing guru, but I will point out something I saw. On the 2nd at bat you were all arms, no lower half. Your legs are strong I'm sure. Get them involved.

Re: Swing Feedback
My suggestion is that you quit with the fake bunt on 3-0. IMO, it's kinda Little League-ish. Besides, the P is usually going to try to throw the same pitch in the same location on the next pitch. You should be getting a really good look at the pitch, time it and envision yourself driving the next one. Swing is fine. I think the reason the second hit looks a bit handsy is because the pitch is up.

Re: Swing Feedback
Little League? I just think there's a difference between little league and trying to get on base? I did get a good look at because, indeed he threw the same pitch 3-1 and I drove it for a knock. Thank's for the feedback though (seriously)-- I think you we're spot on with the anaylis of the 2nd hit. It was high, I kinda had to reach for it so my lower half Trailed my Hands. Appreciated Cabbagedad! Thanks.

Re: Swing Feedback
You seem to have decent intent. That's something that you can't teach. The mechanics, on the other hand, could use some work. I believe you want to use your lower body, just nobody has taught you how to do so. You need to resist rotation of the hips. Coil the hip, pull back with the pelvis, pull back with the scapula, and turn the barrel. Pretty straightforward, though doing it consistently is very tough.

Get them involved. Cabbagedad was spot on......pitch was elevated and outside. If you slow video down several times as you approach 2:41, there is nice incorporation of lower half at impact. Swing looks very good which was evident in how you put a nice rope on the ball. Keep working hard with plenty of T-work...

Re: Swing Feedback
I agree with both cabbagedad. The second pitch was elevated, causing your swing to look more "handsy." Overall, it looks like a pretty good swing, and you made great contact. Like low finish said though, remember to coil the hip, pull back with the pelvis, pull back with the scapula, and turn the barrel.

In 17 Games last year I K'd 14 times. hahahaha. I walked 9 times. I hit 417. I hardly ever got out Via Pop outs. Groundout's//K's accounted for alot of my out's. I'll have my MaxPreps stats up this year.

So... it is difficult to determine what your expectations are for improvement. Do you expect to never strike out? Or, do you just like talking about your accomplishments?

Re: Swing Feedback
So let's say you're in your stance. You have about 60-40 on your back leg. The weight is not behind the instep of the foot. Now, try to turn the pelvis around that leg. It's impossible, but try. You'll feel tight in the hip socket. This is normal. Now, pull toward the dugout behind you with the pelvis. Pull it back and keep trying to pull it back... it'll stop moving after awhile. Pinch the scapula. There are a few ways to do it. Pull back with the top hand, slide the scapula around, etc.

Re: Swing Feedback
If you are striking out a lot, focus on strike zone recognition and reading pitches. This a bit different then analyzing a swing. However a short compact swing provides more time to determine if a pitch should be swung at or not. A pitch middle out to off the plate could be well hit deeper in the zone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?e...vd&v=buI7rLyLqyM Hey everyone. I made some of the tweaks we talked about today during some BP.(esp.with the thrusting of the hips.) This was a swing my friend took on her Iphone. Looking any better?

Your swing looks very good to start. Don't overthink it. Keep getting reps in like you are doing.

Re: Swing Feedback
you swing with your arms..that will be a problem as pitching gets faster and better. try using your HANDS more and release them THRU the ball..GET WRISTY. top hand drill only, try setting up a tee and grabbing a smaller bat that u can handle with one hand..put your left hand on your chest boob area..learn to build bat speed with the top hand..try not to use your arms when powering the ball go on you tube and search for My Hitting drills.MOV..good drills on using your hands

Re: Swing Feedback
My guess is your K's are either when you're taking or swinging & missing on pitches lower in the strike zone? I think it's because your swing is a bit stiff and controlled and the bat doesn't "whip" through the zone as much as you seem to 'pull" it or "guide" it through the zone? Your follow-through really tells me that. This happens to a lot of kids as they try to "find the ball" with the bat, instead of seeing it and trusting the hands! As has been said, let the lower half provide the...

Re: Swing Feedback
Please stop the 3-0 fake bunt. Higher velocity will probably get you. I will add this, at toe touch, I feel your bat is too flat and wrapped around your head (in the BP swing). This causes you to get "long" (and slow) when velocity is cranked up. You didn't show that during the game swings so I am not sure if you do/don't do this regularly.

Re: Swing Feedback
Forgot to comment on the 3-0 fake bunt. Umpires hate it! They also hate it when you do it with the intent of distracting the catcher on a steal. It will be a strike the majority of the time. Use the 3-0 as a chance to see another pitch from your regular stance.

I know a few people said this, would happen. I did strike out on a offspeed pitch yesterday. Way out in front. How should I correct this? Wait back on my back leg longer?

Hard to guage much as your first swing was poor as you did not read the pitch well. That pitch was low and hard to hit. With respect to wrap of bat, I don't see that as an issue at all in your scrimmage video. You could actually get a slightly better load with your hands and get the knob of the bat more focused on the catcher to get a better angle of your bat to...

Re: Swing Feedback
That was one funky swing! First of all, unless the count was 0-2, you shouldn't be even thinking about swinging at that pitch with your current swing. Wait for something up. On the other hand, with a good load and good pitch recognition, it was a pitch that could be drilled to left. stop it at the :08 mark and look at where your hands are. As 4base said, your hands are moving way before the toe touch. At toe touch, your hands should be over or even behind your back foot, with good balance...

So, My hands are droping like straight down it seems like ? Is that hurting me?
Reply
Re: Swing Feedback
Absolutely! when you drop the hands like that, you lose the back shoulder and the back elbow gets lost. Some people call that "losing your connection" hands should go back as front foot is coming down. watch this video of Cabrera. love his swing! simple, but powerful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-zDOVeqWOM Or, this one of Manny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e7p6nvA6po Originally Posted by LorenzoSupino: So, My hands are droping like straight down it seems like ? Re: Swing Feedback
The point being made is that your hands are moving or drifting forward before you are fully loaded with your front foot down to actually initiate your swing in the proper sequence. Slow the first swing down from your scrimmage and then compare it to Manny's first swing. Very obvious.

You seem athletic, so making the right changes could pay big dividends.

Re: Swing Feedback
I think you do a very good job loading and and getting to 50/50 weight distribution before initiating the swing. The general swing and lower body incorporation looks very good. The only thing that I can see when slowing the video down is a very consistent top hand dominance in your swing. You are rolling that top hand and wrist prior to contact which will result in inconsistent squaring up of the barrel on the ball. The end product of top hand dominance is also seen by your follow through as...
