Had this come up for the first time last year and there were no real problems. Kid was a catcher. He did not miss his HS games. Only time it affected him was he had a weekend tourn and did not get in until 2-3 a.m. Monday morning and we had a district game Monday afternoon. He was dragging after 4 tourn games and getting in lat and then playing that Monday

I would think that any HS kid that skipped a school practice or game, would very quickly find himself playing for the showcase team only, so there would be no further conflicts. Time spent at HS practice or games would not be "outside of school". School activities come first. I haven't seen much of this problem beyond freshman ball. Once you get to the older, the tounaments don't typically start till June, do they? My son's team will start practices in early May, but always on Saturday or...

Thank you for all of the great answers.... Just to clarify.... There is no conflict between the high school team and the tournament team. High school games and practices are during the week. Tournament games are on the weekend. We had always heard that it was the coaches that didn't want their players playing and getting hurt outside of school, and then we heard that it was a UIL rule, but the UIL rules for texas do not actually state whether they can or cannot play during a district season.

JeffLovin, My opinion only, but kids need an adequate amount of down time/ recovery time & study time. There is truth to the saying "there's only so many bullets in the holster"...During HS season, 2 games a week + 1-1/2 to 2 hrs a day practice, during a week seems like plenty of playing time for kids under 18 & not in College. After HS season is done, there's 3-4 days a week until mid Nov. That's still a lot of innings, AB's or whatever. When he gets to college baseball will consume...

At 13u my son was a drop 5 in 7th grade, I just got him a bbcor for next year (8th grade) which, as you know, is a drop 3. I am not in TX but fwiw, all the tournaments we are doing next year are 60/90 bbcor only. If your son is going into 7th, there is a good chance they allow for any drop but the bat might have to be usa certified.

Drop 5 for 7th Grade Drop 3 BBCOR for 8th to get ready for HS.

May not be in this case but often it is the team's fault and not the organizer. I speak from personal experience. After being told that my sons team was going to Atlanta to play in the big tourney, I came to find out that they didn't sign up in time, etc, etc. turned out fine for us as we were able to get hooked with another team but not so fine for others.

We had been signed up and paid for almost 2 months and were listed in the teams attending section. They kept the Banditos teams in (who have lately apparently had some issues paying PG while their owner pays for prostitutes at tournaments) while giving us the boot. Not a good deal.

I read the article about Ray. Not good. I cant speak for PG but they do care about their brand and youth baseball in general. I will bet that if you go through the channels in a correct manner, you may get some positive results. I see that you don't have a lot of posts but a prominent member of PG does post on here often. PGStaff. You may get better results by sending him a Private Message on here as opposed to calling PG out.

OK, I guess this is the only way to communicate with FREE=GOOD on this matter, so here is what I have found out. The entry fee was not paid on time. So as of Sunday, the tournament director made out the schedule based on all the teams that had paid the entry fee. Schedules are usually produced a week before the event if not sooner. We do understand that sometimes this is simply a mistake or miscommunication on the part of the team. Anyway, based on the information we do have, we have talked...

Hi all Thanks for the responses. As you may have surmised I was upset and lashed out, typing a snarky response that was probably better directed somewhere else and did not include other teams. For that I apologize. I'm not big into deleting messages as if they never happened - I'll leave it and face the music. Again I humbly apologize for my message. FREE=GOOD, Thanks and apology not necessary, though appreciated. If in your shoes I would have been mad. I wish I could guarantee you will enjoy the tournament. They are all different, some better than others. The only thing I can guarantee is that we do really care. That does not mean we never make mistakes. In this case I think we could have done better.

Yet another example of the class act PGSTAFF is. Based on my knowledge of him both on the forum and in real life, his goal is always to do the right thing, and look out for the kids best interests. He is old school, and his compass is set to try and help anyone who is deserving. This includes when he his organization is not at fault, but he still wants to assist in making things as good as possible, within his capabilities.
