One other vote for Youtube. One of the features that we liked is when son would send emails with his youtube links he could check the analytics page and see if the coaches actually watched the videos and if they were watching the entire video, etc!

Hello Wechson and MarkSmith21 - thanks very much for your responses. I will check out Vimeo and see if You Tube can be reconsidered. Will also keep my eye out for RealPlay. Thanks, again. Matt

@Matt Parry - no problem. Would also recommend if you can keeping videos short, ideally under 60 seconds each. I think it’s ok to send a few videos highlighting different skills or sequences, but I suspect coaches tend to shut off quickly. My guy showed 3 different clips of him pitching (2 strike out sequences and put out) and another of him batting. Just highlight the best stuff so coaches can get a realistic sense of what your player can do, and keep it tight.

@Wechson - Sage advice that I will take. My son is not a pitcher, but I am in the process of assembling a mixed batting / fielding video (and still recalling a number of highlights that I failed to capture on video), so your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Matt

You have a spam folder for HSBBWeb posts? Damn...wish I had one of those. Then I could keep RJM off my computer screen

Just as a note on video — we didn't send game video. We did I think three examples of FB, curve and change up from behind, three of each from the side and three of us from behind the catcher. I shot about 50 of each on my phone, then son and I edited it down in i-movie and then we posted to you tube and in some cases emailed directly to coach. Don't make this any harder that it has to be. Having said that, my son is a pitcher so maybe that was easier.

@Iowamom23 - thanks for the additional insight. My son is not a pitcher and I have some good game video to complement his PBR and NCSA pages. Again, thanks for your comments. Matt

I have had 5 players play for Coach Gutin. He is a very good coach and every player that I have had play for him has nothing but the best things to say about him. I'd pay attention to his advice.

Try to get rid of the arc on the ball. Get on top of it and fire a bullet to the bag.

I will work on that! What is the best thing to do for arm strength? How often can I long toss and do band work? I do band work like 3 times a week and use it to warm up before a game.

The best time is when the player has something to show ... solid mechanics and metrics. Post soph summer is for remaining major D1 recruits and the beginning for mid major D1. Post junior summer is for remaining D1 mid majors and everyone else. But if a player has something to show he can get on the radar screen. A recruiting video should be about mechanics, not highlights. Keep is under three minutes. Impose metrics on the screen. Don’t bother with music. The best use of a video is having...

I started taking videos of son's in-game at-bats and defense his HS junior year after he developed physically and had numbers that would impress (velo, exit velo, pop time, 60 time). In late spring my son spliced together these clips into a 90 second video that included a few cage BP swings and a few showcase throw-downs (my son is a catcher), but most of video time was in-game at-bats (he wanted to show power to all fields) and in-game backpacks, blocks, steal attempts. The clips were 5-7...

+1 We were fortunate to have a dad who did full game videos and I'll pull plays from there and splice them together, keeping the clips short, for example on a stand-up double there's no need to follow him all the way to 2b. No music, but the crowd noise on an RBI hit or a great play really adds something. We added some cage swings, as well as a brief clip of my son introducing himself. He got a lot of positive feedback from coaches.

We did my 2018s first video after his sophomore year. Mine was a RHP, but we used a very specific script — honestly not games because we felt like we wanted coaches to focus on son and his mechanics and not on what's happening in the game. He was a catcher for a while and that video we shot from either just left or right of home plate, I think most of our videos were tops two and a half minutes. Catcher ones were slightly longer because we included hitting. We usually did one to two a year,...

We used a website that tracked who hit the site and viewed son's videos. It was useful for contact management and had a database of coaches/RC emails. I agree, no music and keep it moving.

He can swing a bat. His swing isn't great, but he has potential. If he gets taught the high level swing, the sky is the limit.

Excellent; he looks like he has a very promising future ahead of him. One caveat: just be careful about "loading up" on your changeup delivery.

What to do with all of those videos!

rtlyoung ·
Over the last year, I've been collecting videos of my son's at bats fielding and base running for a couple of reasons. First, I share them with his private coach for training purposes. Second, to help put together a short video that can be provided to college recruiters. The question for the HSBaseballWeb community is what do you guys do with those videos? Currently, they are on my Apple iphone and I'm just about out space. What I really want is to create a space where I can save them and...

I have iCloud storage of 50GB. Having the videos stored on iCloud makes video editing easier when I can download directly to my PC. I also have a 1TB external hard drive, although not accessible to the web. We use Adobe Premiere for video editing and occasionally Movie Maker on the iPad if we are in a hurry. I then upload to YouTube and he sends it out to coaches. As you mentioned, the quality goes down a bit on YouTube. I'm sure there are ways to upload the HD version to the cloud and send...

Welcome! What about a laptop? How are you going to combine in-game clips into a recruiting video? Do you really need to share all the individual clips? For sure you can/should put the recruiting video on Youtube or similar.

Google Drive! Easy to download and easy to access anytime you need them. You can have the app on your phone and pull up the video whenever you need it.

Would you send coaches links to the Google Drive file or would you send them a YouTube link?

Last season's Viseos are now old. You'll need to pick up again during HS and Aummer. Archive them and use them for practice. Best Buy has good laptops on the cheap and Icloud storage is needed.

First, get yourself some iCloud storage and move your videos from your iPhone to your iCloud account. It’s a monthly subscription but relatively inexpensive, and that will resolve your phone storage issue. You can share iCloud videos with anyone who has an Apple account. If you want to share the full-sized video files with non-Apple users, you might want to put them on something like Dropbox (check the monthly fees). Personally, I’ve become anti-google over the years as they increasingly...

I saved them on a digital drive for the longest time, transferred them to a youtube channel and they are still there but not visible, also have them on Google Drive and often watch them if i talk with my son or he brings something up. Two days ago was his first live coming off rehab and his 4th pitch was a 105mpb line drive off his inner knee, lower quad and as our family group text bantered back and forth about the incident, i sent him this and jokingly questioned his "cat like " reflexes...

For your own file storage, Google Drive is great. For sending to others, not so great. Sometimes to view a Google Drive file, the viewer has to be logged in to Google. It's annoying if the viewer has multiple Google accounts, or maybe no Google account. Adds an extra step. I know myself I sometimes don't bother to look at Google files if I'm not logged in to the account where the sender sent the email. If the point is to make it as easy as possible for people to view, I'd use Youtube, so all...

Anybody notice the new YouTube Shorts thing they are doing? Seems like any video under a minute is automatically uploaded as a YT Shorts and at a lower resolution. I'm not sure of a work around yet but I just added 1 second to put it over a minute. Not sure what to do with a 30-45 second clip.

After shooting video on my iphone, my son and I went through it together and he chose the best shots. i got rid of the rest. We pasted together the good stuff and posted it on you tube and then sent out links. I used imovie to do all the editing. It worked fine.
