Re: 2006 CWS

HeyBatter, This is why it is so critical to win your conferences' automatic bid. We see this every year in basketball, many teams deserving of a bid don't get one because there are only so many at large bids. Every time a team under .500 runs the table in a major conference tournament it reduces the number of those avialable at large bids. This is because the dominant team in the conference may take an at large bid when they were expected to take the automatic one. Every year in baseball,...

We had above a .500 season this summer. Were looking to expand our team and that is why we are now having the open tryout. As for next summer we plan on attending many showcases to...

This tournament allows the high school coaches to get an early look at their team to evaluate players and make some player decisions for the upcoming spring season. Accordingly all of the players are getting some time in and the more talented Sophomores who are being considered...

BC and Miami in the ACC is a long long travel path. Many would of thunk TCU would be better off in the Big 12 and replace Colorado/Nebraska and have another team added to the Big 12. It will be interesting to see TCU in the Big East in baseball as well as football. Hopefully change is good for the school and the League.

The Rangers must leave money to lock up Hamilton. I'm hearing that Michael Young might be on the block in order to make a bid for Beltre. As much as I like Young as a leader and consistant hitter, I would do that if possible. Young is a statue at third base.

Interesting development. If the Yankees have the "winning bid", there would be no discussion about uping the offer. Before the tone from the Yankees was they would without a doubt sign Lee. Obviously the college teams change from year to year so even after joining the Big East it will not answer the questions of 2010. However overall I disagree that TCU will be playing tougher teams when they join the Big East. Most of the current Big East teams are former non AQ's that were added to keep the conference...

They do count, but with a name and RPI like Texas they can afford to play 3 less this spring. A smaller school/ conference (WCC for instance)on the other hand has to schedule as many tough opponents in the spring as possible to raise their RPI in case they don't win their conference. They need to take advantage of all 56 games to earn respect and hopefully an NCAA regional bid. Texas will get a bid almost automatically regardless of 53 or 56 games.

Ahh, the argument is not as clear as you make it out though. Duke went 1-2 in the conf tournament, while BC went 2-1, plus Duke had a 4 game losing streak coming down the stretch of the season. Add all that together with a 42 point advantage in the dreaded RPI for BC (29 to 71)...and BC gets the bid. I see what you mean about head to head, but the one game difference in the total W-L is really wiped out hard by the RPI difference.

Rainoutsux, For either Grassfield or Hickory to advance to the Eastern Regional, they have to win 3 games. For either Indian River or Nansemond River to advance to the Eastern Regional, they have to win 2 games IF Great Bridge wins on Wednesday and 3 games IF Great Bridge loses on Wednesday. For Western Branch to advance to the Eastern Regional, they have to win 1 game IF Great Bridge wins on Wednesday and 2 games IF Great Bridge loses on Wednesday. Hawaii shared the regular season WAC conference title with Fresno State but came in second in the conference tournament. I guess I am more surprised that they did not win their tournament and gain an automatic bid than I am that they did not make the field of 64.
