Re: ACL Rupture

Driller, I am so sorry for your son (and you and his mother). At this moment you're probably pretty depressed and understandably so. Adam is now 9 1/2 months post op and is probably 90% recovered. He got a complete release for all activites at the end of September. I see where my last post was July 18th. At that point he was still going to rehab and just palying catch/long toss and 1/2-3/4 effort bullpens. He progressed to taking batting practice by August and pitching competitively at full...

John & Dog, First of all THANK YOU both for responding so quickly ! As you both know this is a very trying time for all. My head feels like I'm in my first day of Calculus class Freshman year, overloaded, but learning a ton in a short time. John, I'm really happy your son is back to "dunking" basketballs again ! That is very encouraging. Bulldog, we are at peace with our Surgeon and PT guys as they both deal with college and professional athletes from our area all the time. Today (this...

Hey Bulldog- How's it going down there? I think that you guys missed the bulk of this weeks big winter storm? Question for you regarding Adam's knee. He still experiences quite a bit of pain on in the knee, particularly after a strenuous "indoor" workout on the old astroturf (at Velocity) and less so, but still pain, on the field turf at the the Pirates Sandlot facility. He also will feel pain while doing his squats/leg sled strength training. Is this common with the patella graft? Seems...

Re: ACL Rupture

Sounds to me like it would likely be due to the patellar tendon graft. The pain sounds like it's right there in the patellar tendon where the graft was taken from. I don't know how long that pain tends to last, but it is something that I have learned is "normal" for those with a patellar graft. They often have pain on the anterior aspect of the knee from the graft. It's why I have reservations against the patellar tendon graft for many athletes.

John/Bulldog, Son's surgery was 17 days ago (feels like 3 months ago...) He had the Patellar graft performed on the ACL. Surgery was very successful; however, MCL was stretched a little more than originally thought and had to have that tightened up and stitched. The first post-op meeting with the surgeon was 11 days after surgery. At that appt. surgeon trained approx. 60 cc's of crude/blood from the knee. Is that tyipcal/normal ? Swelling went down immediately and the knee is almost the size...

Bulldog/ John, I wanted to update you kind fellas on our son's rehab since his surgery date of February 4th. After approx. 2.5 months with the physical therapist we were approached by an ex-D1 college football strength and conditioning coach. His opinion @ that time was that our son was NOT getting the Hamstrings and Quads "fired up" enough from physical therapy and that more intensive weight training would cure that. The results from the intensive weight training were not only good for his...

First you are wrong. A lot of business decisions are all about the east coast. I recognize this even having lived twenty years of my life on the west coast. Almost half the population of the country lives in the eastern time zone. That's half the kids in the US. Half the kids in the US can't stay up to watch the games. The kids are the future of the game. That's my point. Tape delaying it to the next night is absurd. No one is going to go 24 hours without hearing who won. People on the west...

Anytime you can make Jim Rome at least a little uncomfortable, that's a good thing. As far as Wilson goes, I think baseball benefits from its characters and if one can carry the weight of being a character and still be a top performer, then more power to you. Before the post-season, I couldn't figure out how Wilson made it work as he appears to have little in the way of stuff. But he stuffed my favorite team and appears to be a real bulldog. He might have a future teaching "mentality" camps.

Re: catcher: two fingers in the pinkey hole

piaa_ump ·
to me this has always been a glove specific thing more than a catcher thing.....as an old catcher I had a Nokona Bulldog mitt and it was well broken in....2 fingers in the pinky finger slot gave me more control over the floppy mitt.... My Rawlings however, was more firm and had a more substantial pocket....there was no need to have the added pressure to shut the mitt.... so after all that.....can you catch?......ok do it that way....

I don't know for sure actually. I do know that they are able to be used right away if needed. As long as the battery is good, it should be operational. But I know that when an AED is used, it records a lot of information. That information needs to be analyzed after an incident.

In this case I could count up to twelve AED's needed for Spring sports and that does not include those that would be mandatory in the gym, pool, weight room, and field house...

I think i would agree with you if the pitcher had to throw the next day or even two days after. But since starting pitchers usually throw once ever 5 to 7 days (depending on the schedule) I think they just need to be 100% by the day they throw in the game. My personal workout, and I know a lot of other professional ball players have their hardest workouts the day after they pitch. Every day moving forward the workouts get a little easier to make sure we are are 100% for the next start.

Bulldog 19, That's what the players are for....cheap manual labor. High School...tarps are really simple. Players put the tarps on or risk death by running. No decent HS coach would tolerate the players not taking care of the field. Rec/public parks....seen it work well but does take alot of coordination w/coaches. The college rule is very similar to the HS rule on players and if being evaluated and you allow coaches and players out of the dugout you will be marked down. a. All players and substitutes of both teams must be in their team’s dugout area or bullpen and remain there until the ball has been declared dead or the side has been retired. This excludes the batter, the on-deck batter, base runners, base coaches and the nine defensive players (see 5-2-c).

TPM, the Cardinals had the chance to pick up Jake Peavy this past offseason. Reasons they wouldn't sign him: $$ of course, Mr. De(wallet) as they call him wasn't going to open his wallet; also, "we got Chris Carpenter and we don't need him." Gee, even if Carp had stayed healthy, just think if the Cardinals had Carpenter and Peavy on consecutive days in the rotation-- they'd win nearly every series just like that!

Wow. I must really be going overboard. I expect my scorebook to have balls and strikes. How else would I be able to keep track of how my pitchers did? Or who had a really good plate appearance even though it ended up a reached on error? Yes, I can tell who is on or off, or who is getting ahead (pitchers), or who had a good appearance (batters). But when I look at the book a week or two later it is helpful to figure out what had happened.
