Re: R3 jumps over catcher

ga_ump ·
With most 16U leagues, they play by HS rules, unless this was a tournament and then house rules overrides HS rules. It is my understanding, at least in the state of Georgia, that a player my not leave his feet except to slide, but does not have to slide. Now there is also a stipulation in the rules about no contact, so that the runner coming home cannot "bulldog" the cather and make him lose the ball. In GHSA, this is an out for the offensive team and an ejection from the ball game. In this...

Bulldog I recommend decaf. A seat away from the action, as Ace suggests, some deep breathing drills, very thick skin, plenty tolerence, and a ear to lend after the game are also highly recommended. There will be good days and bad days. Beware of "by-standers" who will try to drag you deep down into their personal hell. If at all possible...........Stay Positive and enjoy

Re: Inmates are running the asylum...

Bulldog19...you want it all, but you can't have it all son without letting others down. What is wrong with a baseball coach wanting his team to be #1 during the baseball season? Same goes for the basketball coach in the winter, football coach in the fall. Parents want to keep the numbers down on a team so Johnny or Susie get more playing time. But then mom and pop want to take the kids on a cruise right in the middle of the season. Great for mom, pop, Johnny and Susie...but what about coach...

Re: Inmates are running the asylum...

We aren't talking about high school!!! We are talking about 12 and 13 year old kids playing rec/travel baseball. In this neck of the woods, it means a season from April 1 to about the middle of July. It is not practical to have a schedule by November/December unless the rest of the league and the tournament directors setting up the tournaments have that schedule ready by that time. Most leagues, atleast around here, set up the final schedules (when play is due to start in early April) by the...

Re: Fair/Foul and New Replay Rules

Stats4Gnats ·
I really don’t understand what your point is in arguing that computers may as well play the game, rather than to simply have technology help apply the rules. The two things are totally different. What you seem to be saying is, the game as it is in inviolate and nothing should be allowed to change it in any way, but even the youngest of us has seen the rule book change during our lives. Unless you advocate going back to the original rules of the game, you have no reason to argue against any...

Well said by someone who has never stood behind the plate and called 250 to 300 pitches. This game is played by humans and is officiated by humans and there is absolutely no need to change anything. Players make mistakes, umpires make mistakes. Live with it. The sun will come up tomorrow.

The funny thing is that most fans don't agree that IR needs to expanded. Most,if not all, talking idiots think it does. Many of the ESPN analysts believe it too but they have a bias against officials in all sports, it makes their job easier.

Re: Most Important Pitching Stat

Midlo Dad ·
I have never seen anyone keep this stat, but I would like to see batting avg., slugging and on-base avg. for pitchers AFTER they put men on base. I see so many pitchers who are mechanically well trained who simply cannot keep their composure and perform once a few little things go wrong. I like a guy who doesn't panic if the leadoff man gets a double, or perhaps even a better test, a 2-base error. Because I don't care who you are or how much stuff you've got, you have to deal with these...

Re: "Wonderful" high school coach

CoachB25 ·
Bulldog 19, there were several times in that game were you just missed on a pass or just fell short of a key first down or your team would have made that game REAL CLOSE. Again, proving the point that some times but not always the score isn't the only stat that indicates how tough or close the game is. The stats you provided prove this.

looks like it's just me and you left on this but yeah the first part of your post is essentialy correct. The part about hitting? No, hitting is way harder, IMO. than learning to pitch at the HS level. BTW I'm going through this process right now with my 15YO son. A SS that is learning to pitch. In a few appearances he's about as good as anyone on his teams. Of course he pitched some in youth ball but never was considered by me as a real pitcher. Now I'm not so sure. We're working to see...
