Re: Georgetown Baseball

CapitalBaseball ·
Great campus and surrounding area. They play at Shirley Povich Field about 10 miles away. The field is top-notch. As far as the program, they've struggled. I think they went 23-33 last year, however, you'll need to double check. I don't know how well their recruiting efforts are. The head coach, Pete Wilks, knows baseball and has a solid resume. The school is tops academically and very selective. http://guhoyas.cstv.com/facilities/gu-povich-field.html

Not to be indelicate, but a 'neighborhood' is called a '****' (pron 'dawng'). Furthermore, a collection of neighborhoods is a '-gu', a city is a '-shi', and a province is a '-do'. You could almost make a song out of these terms......and I fully expect you to work very hard on doing just that, Mr. Ely. Maybe to the tune of that goofy song Potsy Weber did on Happy Days way back when.

Re: Georgetown Hoyas

My son is currently a senior on the Gtown baseball team so I will correct what has been said here. Justakid is not totally correct, Georgetown baseball team started giving out 5 baseball scholarships in 2006. From that point they gave a total of 5 per year and were planning to increase amount by 3 to a total of 8. The NCAA sanction states that that the team will be limited to the 5 original scholarships as part of a SELF-IMPOSED penalty until 2012, also, they CAN participate in any post...

Thanks Spider59! As to Goosegg's point, the team play in Rockville, MD which is about 15 minutes from GU, home field of the Bethesda Big-Train of the Cal Ripkin summer league. The field is always in great condition, capacity of about 1500+. Not going to lie it would be great to have it on campus and I think it does somewhat hurt recruiting but we have seen fields at some campuses that are in pretty shabby condition, so I guess it's a trade off. The team has a very loyal alumni fan base and...

The only building that I find ugly is the library. It is supposed to be a modern architectural interpretation/translation of Healy, and it is also a Vietnam War Memorial. There are plans in the works to re-vamp it. Healy, Copley and WG are gothic style. All other buildings are red brick - yes they may be in different architectural modes. Other buildings are generally 4 stories tall from ground level (library has 2 floors below Healy lawn ground level, Harbin is 9 but not from ground level).

PG: Thanks for the information. It provides expert support that GU is working hard to improve its baseball. CPLZ, I agree with some of what you say. Isaac is entitled to his opinion, whether anyone else agrees or not. However, some of the schools he places ahead of GU to are not even in the same ballpark (to use and apt expression). I started to give more input, but I think it about time enough to end the debate, because it is not fruitful, because the further we go with this, the more...

One last comment, then I am done. The US News and World Report rankings are wonderful, with one small exception (IMO). They include the school's endowment as one of their major ranking factors. Unfortunately, GU's endowment is not large. Speculation for this fact includes the idea that many grads go to work in the public sector, making less money, therefore giving less to their alma mater - no basis for this, pure speculation amongst the GU student population. So, that is why GU gets a 23...

See, now here we go again with opinions on the looks of schools. I totally respect your idea, ted, but I liked the gothic. I also liked the arena and the football field, although I thought they were in odd locations for the entire college. I thought the library was spectacular! (and BTW, I think BC has a TON more grass than GU - see the other thread, hahaha.) I know quite a few kids at the school and they all love it. We send a lot of kids there from the left coast.

It's a matter of expectations. A suburban school usually has a lot more grass. An urban school may have just enough grass in the middle of the campus to throw a football or frisbee.

What does "On the field" mean in this context, does it mean spread and use the whole field?

iplaybaseballtoo ·
Rewording question because people are having trouble understanding it. Before I go into the details here is the premise of the argument if someone says "do you want to take an infield/outfield on the field?" during warmups before a game where would you go? The two choices are to the outfield where you do a infield/outfield, or to your normal game position on the field. The answer should solely be based on how the question was phrased. I got into this debate with my friend because he stated...
