OBR defines the defensive stat "Number of double plays participated in" as something the official scorer needs to note. Further, in 10.11 DOUBLE AND TRIPLE PLAYS "The official scorer shall credit participation in a double play or triple play to each fielder who earns a putout or an assist when two or three players are put out between the time a pitch is delivered and the time the ball next becomes dead or is next in possession of the pitcher in a pitching position, unless an error or misplay...

I would beg to differ on this one. In the op, the batted ball hit the runner. The runner didn't interfere with the fielder. I'd apply 10.05.a.5 10.05 BASE HITS A base hit is a statistic credited to a batter when such batter reaches base safely, as set forth in this Rule 10.05. (a) The official scorer shall credit a batter with a base hit when: (5) a fair ball that has not been touched by a fielder touches a runner or an umpire, unless a runner is called out for having been touched by an...

My bad, nice catch. I didn’t pay enough attention when reading it. Yes, the scoring rules can be found on MLB.com, and those rules are much better known as OBR. Trouble is, while experienced HS scorers will more often than not defer to OBR, they do it knowing they’re technically wrong because HSB during the season for the most part comes under NFHS rules which are in many case much harder to read, and certainly do not have the explanations OBR has. I’ve maintained for more than a decade that...

There have been numerous suits brought against umpires...my association had one about ten years ago, however, no umpire as of yet has been held liable. And, all it will take to get the umps out of this suit is: 1. Establish their inability to pay an award. 2. Establish that one or both give the instructions that personnel were not allowed in liveball territory. Courts have ruled previously that umpires cannot be expected to babysit all players continuously and perform their primary function.

Re: Texas Rangers Productive Atbat Chart

Stats4Gnats ·
I certainly understand the excitement of coaches who want to try something that seems to be a success at the ML level, but I truly think many of them lose sight of the goal by a common mistake. That mistake is making things too complicated. Hurdle keeps thing simple, and more importantly only uses things that are completely objective, and only positive. Too many people try to stick in things like hard hit balls or negatives like a failed hit and run, and all it really does is complicate...

That’s pretty much why I’m not a big fan of “hard hit” balls being counted as positives. Heck, if that were a good idea, then non-hard hit balls should be counted as negatives. As you can see it can get very complicated very easily. And its why I find Clint’s list to be very objective, and one where you’d never get that kind of question. Over the years I’ve come up with a metric that contains nothing but objective stats. You can go to http://www.infosports.com/scor...images/batting11.pdf and...

Maybe your school has a "Naviance" site. On these sites, there is a database that shows what has happened to student from your school over the past 5 years or so, broken down by the college to which they applied. It shows the GPA and SAT scores of each applicant as a dot on a graph, and then the dot is colored red or green based on whether the student was accepted or not. Soreness isn't necessarily bad, especially if you're just starting up. However, pain is bad. Where exactly is the soreness? Down by the elbow or in the middle of the muscle? I would watch this guy. He could be over-using his pitchers or teaching them problematic mechanics. Only if it doesn't go away. This is a good, safe program. I would have him do something that works the muscles of his abdomen, particularly the muscles that rotate the abdomen. That can range from sit-ups to crunches to...

Because our league plays by mlb rules, I am most famailiar with them. So, when the pitcher stops his motion with the batter still in the box asking for time and pu hasn't granted time then it is a balk all day long. This is what I was referring to when it happened in our league- it really is a "balk" according to mlb rules as far as I understand it.

Where o where would research be without 'Wikipedia'. NCLB The effectiveness and desirability of NCLB's measures are hotly debated. A primary criticism asserts that NCLB could reduce effective instruction and student learning because it may cause states to lower achievement goals and motivate teachers "to teach to the test." A primary supportive claim asserts that systematic testing provides data that sheds light on which schools are not teaching basic skills effectively, so that...
