I think this is a great topic and one that shows that there are things to be learned. First, we don't really know ALL of the circumstances and poster has not returned to expalin anything, we may have misunderstood soemt things. But brings up good points. Parents of younger players reading this can learn a few things. We can't always be there to watch our sons play, and if we are we are sometimes distracted. Couldn't agree more and while I didn't think it possible, they appear to be getting more stupid by the season. I think this is a terrible idea and wish someone would inform the powers that be that baseball and football are not the same game. I would much rather they spent the resources they are wasting on this on training, assurance, whatever the umpires need. Oh, and Tim McCarver is the worst announcer in the history of baseball.

For a school with "high academic standards", their coach seems a bit out of the loop. They might want to inform the coach the scale for SAT's changed. The scores you listed would be rather low on the new 2400 scale.

In no particluar order: Strength, conditioning and agility program for pitchers, off season and in season. Should include guidelines for limits on lifting for younger players, i.e. 14yo freshmen. Policy on how much throwing two way players should or shouldn't do during practice in addition to pitching and bullpens. Policy on integrating throwing done with a pitching instructor into school's throwing and pitching work. Tough for some pitching coaches to deal with but hey, it's a reality.

This site supplemented by showcase and summer team exposure is the first step. Next, I would focus on a site like getmynameout.com, or berecruited.com. You don't build the site and hope for "hits". You build the site and communicate with coaches through their email database and provide a link to your profile as you inform them of events that you may be participating in should they wish to scout you. It is a site that requires you to be proactive, and gives you the tools to be just that.

HitandRun, This is a bad situation, but on the surface, there is nothing contrary to NCAA rules. UNLV had plenty of scholarships to give to JC players, because it has until July 1 to inform returning players if their scholarships are being renewed. The NLIs represent the only committed money before then. The JC players typically won't have committed to any 4 year school until the Baseball season is over. Furthermore, some JC players won't commit until after the draft, because the target 4...

I can see both sides of this communication issue. As a parent I want to know as much as possible as to who is noticing my kid. I think it helps the player to know that he is being noticed by building his confidence and knowing that his hard work is paying off. I can also understand a coach not telling a parent of every inquiry they get about every kid. Some may turn into a phone call but most probably won't. An experienced coach like TR should know one from the other and know when to inform...
