Coachdad - I have read about it both on the internet and in a story or two in the paper. I do not know of anyone that even performs this therapy. Do regular doc's do it? Or is it an "alternative" medical treatment? Not to knock alternatives, but that does get into some shady areas and some things work and others do not - also, some have adequate training to provide the treatment and others have little to none (this in reference to alternatives as a whole lot). What part of the elbow is in pain and in what part of the throwing motion does it hurt? It could be forearm tightness or inflammation of the ulnar ligament. Running and cardio will promote more blood flowing to that region of the body due to longer raised heartrate level. A rice bucket exercise program would be a good idea, possibly. Take a normal size bucket from Home Depot or wherever and fill it about 75% with rice....put a baseball in the bucket, grip the ball and go through light...

The long head of the biceps attachment point is the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. Its distal insertion is in the forearm to the radis bone. it travels though the capsule of the shoulder it is held in place by the humeral ligament. If the ligament becomes lax the biceps tendon can pull/tear/fray off the labrum which is the surrounding tissue that deepens the socket. One thing I see that is glaringly obvious in the 03mpg clip is the way Gonzalez pinches toward the center with his left leg in his right medial ligament & anterior cruciate ligament or in layman's term, the right & top side of his left leg knee. My daughter,yes daughter had TJ August of 04. The surgeon however replaced the ligament however chose NOT to move the nerve as it seemed to be fine. She pitched her senior year beginning the end of March 05 after MUCH rehab. She had a very good season. She did not play summer ball but went on the college to play. She negected her (rehab for life after tj surgery) and after 2 practices pitching at school her nerve slipped and she was out and back to rehab until Feb. She began rehab again...

Havent had a kid with a knee injury, but did have a kid break his ankle and have some ligament damage in it, he had pins in it and all. He was back by the spring and played CF, hit leadoff, stole a ton of bases and was a regional qualifier in track. We were lucky he came back like he did. Dont know about knee injuries. On your ace which knee is it, his back knee or his plant knee?

My son had TJ surgery last June, end of his sophomore year in HS. Dr. Andrews found a large bone chip which he said was rubbing and cutting the ligament for probably a couple of years. Was back on the field playing 3rd base the following spring and now back on the bump. Tough stuff but after Dr. Andrews I credit my son's therapist for his strong recovery. After the operation it's all about who is in charge of you son's rehab. Never think that they're all the same, because they're not!.

Sounds like your doctor has given you good advice. My son had the same scenario...his ortho gave him a rest and rehab program. Only after that didn't resolve the issue did he suggest an MRI (as well as x-ray). The MRI showed no tears, but a bone spur and some instability. Again, he prescribed conservative rehab approach. Finally, when this didn't resolve it, he decided TJ was the best option (he has done hundreds for many athletes (amateur and professional) and consulted with major league...

BINGO. UCL injuries are not an overuse injury. Ligament injuries are almost always acute injuries-- one incident causes it. Rotator Cuff injuries are more often chronic injuries-- overuse. Throwing max velocity so often is a likely cause for injury. Throwing over 85MPH is a risk factor for elbow injuries big-time..

All: Thanks for the encouragement. An MRI has already been done, what is next is an MRI in which they inject a dye which will tell them what is torn and how much. The surgeon told us not to jump to conclusions but in his opinion, without seeing the new pictures (which are delayed until next Friday) he expects to see a tear. He is 6'-4" and 187 and still growing as he is 15. According to the surgeon, that can not be the cause, but couple that big lever, with the younger age and the imperfect...
