It may not be exactly laziness, but it kind of lets my guard down. I get too relaxed while I'm out on the field, and that's when I make mistakes, not necesarilly lazy, just more relaxed, and not as attentive. I don't know why, but they just do that to me. I may have to go back to them, since I have most likely torn my acl, so not wearing them may no longer be an option, in order to be able to catch again next year. O well, I will just have to work harder.

I've wondered about this subject for years and I can see both sides of the argument. Growing up I just got used to seeing pitchers like Fergie Jenkins and Wilbur Wood throw complete games all the time. I don't remember pitch counts even being mentioned. I remember the three-inning relief stints by guys like Bruce Sutter. With kids, however, it seems like there has to be some caution. It's hard to deny that kids who throw too much often end up with arm injuries. I know in the summer it can...

Just returned from this facility, son had a hitting lesson. It is in Keller off of Golden Triangle Blvd (1201 Golden Triangle which is also FM1709) just West of 377, a little hard to find, just past the RR tracks on the South side behind a building that is being torn down... Right now, what is open is the hitting facility only and the rest must be a staged plan..........Nice place. Here is their website: http://www.athleticvillagesports.com/

I walked some of the boys that are helping with the camp over to see one of their screens torn up. I then told them what was done to their field. I'd take a bet that in a week we will know who did what. Of importance was that right away this morning, my Principal was out there. He/the administration cares very much for all of the programs here and they take an interest in helping us out. I showed him our torn screen and I'm betting that it gets replaced. Injuries seem to be a common theme this year. My son had a great fall in his freshman year at JUCO level. He was anticipating the spring but kept having this nagging, intermittent pain so saw a doctor while he was home for Christmas. MRI was inconclusive so he decided to do the therapy the doc suggested and just play. His velocity was way down even coming back to begin the spring and he lost his shot in the starting rotation. He was perfect in his first two appearances but then had a rough...

I caught for the first time in about a month today, I had a partially torn ACL, and after reading about technique and driving with your legs on throwdowns, I made a throw, and it was absolutely perfect, for me anyways. I nailed the glove, right in the perfect spot, with tons of speed on it. I now know how to use my lower body strength, and it will help me throw out lots more runners.

As a coach...tell the coach. Son's varsity debut will just be delayed. If he is good enough when he is healthy, he'll be there. kellerdad is right, rest, or you will wind up with a serious injury. In my experience...tendonitis in shoulder = torn rotator cuff. Tendonitis in the elbow = Tommy John surgery! Rest, Rest, Rest. Also, get a 2nd and 3rd opinion just to make sure! Have seen tendonitis get misdiagnosed more than a few times.

I agree it's tragic. Unfortunately, it also reflects that lack of knowledge that exists among both coaches and MDs about what to do to prevent these injuries. Elbow chips are caused by bones slamming together. In this case, while you can't know exactly what happened without knowing where the bone chips were found, the most likely cause of the problem is the tip of the Olecranon (the elbow end of the Ulna bone) slamming into its fossa in the Humerus (upper arm bone). - Illustration of the...

You better study arm action a little. I have a torn rotator cuff and can't raise my arm to throw properly. I have to push the ball instead of throw it. Yet, in fastpitch softball I still throw out the fastest 25 yr olds in the league. Hmmmmmm. Compare my arm height to the height of the professional catcher above. That is good arm action. Do you mean accurate as in throwing to 2B? Please. Never a problem on any pitch location. You are suggesting that other locations are trouble. Simply not...

That was my thought too! I think we, as parents, can provide guidance, but I see many folks (dads and moms) that disregard what their son wants because they're going to make him into a star whether that means coaching them or "making" them play for a certain team. My own son, while in HS, had opportunities to play for much higher level in the summer than the team he chose to stay with.... which was his HS teammates. The radiologist's report from the MRI lab came back saying that he had a partially torn brachialis tendon at the insertion. It is not uncommon to injure the UCL in other ways besides pitching, it just may be that because he pitched it was discovered. One wouldn't need to have it repaired unless they played baseball or another sport that required it to be 100%. A ML baseball player I know bumped the inside part of his elbow against a pole and the next thing you know TJS was required as it was torn (not a pitcher so recovery was quicker). He is 6'-4" and 187 and still growing as he is 15. According to the surgeon, that can not be the cause, but couple that big lever, with the younger age and the imperfect...

If not torn then hopefully right into rehab to get it back to normal, if torn I hope it is an obvious tear and they go right to surgery so your son could be ready for next season and not waste precious time trying rehab first. DPElite, Sorry to hear about your son. Be sure to let us know what the results of the MRI w/ Dye were and if surgery was needed. My son who is also 15 just had his TJ surgery on the 23rd of December. His innings were monitored closely as well but still tore up his UCL. While not as big as your son he is still good sized for 15 (6" 2" and 190lbs) and threw hard. After the fact the physical therapist found that his shoulder was extremely weak and likely was a culprit in the elbow blowing out.
