baseballpapa, I'm glad you believe in what you belive in. Of course I don't agree. I believe in our system and it has worked. Our power numbers are extremely good for a high school team. Of course, you might argue that those doubles and triples would be HRs if they were to stride. Each to their own. Regarding your question about changing hitters. I don't ever change a hitter until I've watched them and allowed them to either have success or failure doing what they do. Then, I step in.

Tim played for the Bayside Yankees last summer. Luckily I didn't face him. My friend played for them and said he was legit, and I was like ok ok. But that was a bomb last night. He's a Freshman All-American also, and if you're a catcher with that kind of power, wow. That probably would have been out even with a wood bat, which is a whole other subject in the collegiate game. Even still, a bomb.

My prayers go out to Ryans family and friends. You know most everyone lives has been affected by the premature death of someone they know since 9/11. So many Americans have lost their lives and it does seem unfair at times. Our forefathers fought for our freedom as we still are today, as well as for other countries. Ryan Clark has given the ultimate sacrafice for his country as have so many young men throughout the history of our great nation. The fallen heros we mourn have given their lives...

Personally, I feel that the NFL needs to do some investigating into the officiating in this game. The reversed interception was terrible. However, there was also the pass interference non-call on the bomb to El (and when El was held on flick pass a play or so earlier), and the worst call: When the Colts jumped on D across the line, the officials blew the play dead & then said there was no foul?! In baseball terms, that's the same as a HR hitting the foul pole & instead of ruling it a...

Last summer against the Va Diamonds 16U, he had three pickoffs in 2.7 innings of relief. This spring, he has improved his move to first. He picked 7 guys this year. One kid, twice in the same game. His new HS coach (also was a LHP) has worked on his "moves" to make them unpredictable. I've noticed that the more kids he...

Sorry guys but the HR that Tanner hit was not a walk off but it did tie the game. The Blackhawks ended up winning the game in the next inning. I was coachinfg first at the time Tanner hit the bomb and had previously called my wife at the hotel and told her to start packing as I thought we were done. Needless to say I was wrong. Just goes to show you that BLACKHAWKS ruled then.

Ya the Patriots were ahead all the way till the 6th 3-1. The Super 17's scored two in the 6th to tie it up and Brian Dixon came in and struck out two in a row to get them out of a jam. Lunday pitched great and got a little tired in the 6th due to pitching four days before. The Patriots lost in the bottom of the 7th, full count lead off walk off bomb. The batter could have easily been rung up the two previous pitched but umpires do want to end the game too.

For the rest of the day, aside from an occasional potty break, I sat in my family room, glued to the TV as it all unfurled. Several times during the day, the local news broke to the airport ... the eerily empty airport ... where news reporters would talk about another 'scare',...

Re: College pitcher / qualifications for a closer?

Coachric ·
Hello ladies. In my experience coaches will take a chance on a few pitchers to see who will be the best fit for closing. It may take a player with a certain attitude, calm demeanor, one who could have a bomb go off next to him and he wouldn't flinch. Thats the ideal view from a coach. Even if the coach does or doesn't have one of these players, he will want a player who can throw hard, throw strikes and get hitters out quickly. He may be a pitcher who has 1 or 2 quality pitches, may not have...

We didnt play as well in the first game with jesuit. It showed the we had lack of practice but we bounced back in the second game. There was a kid that hit about a 475 foot bomb off us. And dtiger gave up a devistating bomb in the 5th. But we bounced back to tie in the bottom of the 6th.

What a coinkydink that the story breaks the day before he's supposed to start game 7 of the ALCS. I've never been into conspiricy theory, but it doesn't take a conspiricy to leak something from on up high in a manner timely enough to upset the mentality of a player who will likely play the greatest role in whether his team succeeds or fails. I think the proper term would be manipulation. Imagine the stain on the heirarchy if it comes out later that Wakefield took something, and it didn't get...

The celebratory arms raised in the air should be reserved for a player who very rarely hits a bomb, and even then, in the right circumstance. That would signal to me a great moment in a kids baseball career. Like, wow, I did that !! When a polished hitter with power like Ramirez does it continually, it makes me think what Ryan or Gibson would do when they pitched????

That would be an era gone by when players policed players. These days, since the umpires now look at themselves as the drawing card, they have taken over policing the game and we have the Manny being Manny type activities. Heck, I saw Charlie Haeger, the White Sox pitcher, get thrown out with no warning for hitting someone with a 60 mph knuckleball.

Enjoy your post, my friend. Well, that is a little bit extreme though. If I want set up the lineup or calling every pitches, I better put some money in the team, and make myself a coach. Hey, being a coach for the LL team is not fun, you have to be in every game 1 hr earlier, under 100 degree heat, hitting ground balls or fly balls to the players. You take blame for every loss while kids got all the credit for the win. Coaching is a very hard job to do especially at LL level, because you...

Sometimes it is difficult for a h.s. player to know whether he can "honestly compete for a top 25 spot on the roster." He may be "the bomb" on his high school and select teams, only to discover that he is in the middle of the pack (or even lower) when he is comparing himself to his college teammates. On the other hand, a good college recruting coordinator should have a pretty good handle on how the h.s. player will stack up against his future college teammates. I don't believe it is right...

It was a bomb I was sitting there watching him hit and there was never any doubt. He also did a great job behind the plate. He throws very well and it sure wouldn't hurt if his pitchers would attempt to hold runners. His throws were strong quick and on the money and he never had a chance on a couple of stolen bags. He is a fine looking player on a very good team. I really enjoyed watching him and FF's son play. Good luck the rest of the year.

I know one level it didn't help. Years ago, when the kid was 12, and we went to Cooperstown. Remember those short fences? Turned our entire team into a bunch of upper-cutting fools. Of course, that might have been the weak coaching (guilty). Seemed like the more I told them to forget about the fences, the more their little 12-year old brains were obsessed with them.

The play of the game for the Hickory Oscar Smith game (in my humble opinion) was made by Hickory center fielder Will Flora. After diving for a bomb hit to the right CF wall by the Smith 3rd basemen (that he barely missed) Flora was able to catch the ball off the bounce and throw from the seated position to the second base cut off/ who then threw the runner out at 3d base as the Smith player tried to extend the hit into a triple. Unbelievable!

I disagree with this based on what I've seen. I didn't see all that much bunting in the past with the old BESR bats. Why do that when just about everyone was capable of driving the ball. Thus you could afford to wait for the big inning and or the long ball. Now, I see every team sacrificing, even in the first inning, an out to move a guy into scoring position. They are taking every opportunity to score a run here and there rather than waiting for the 3-run bomb. Pitching inside with the old...

Main thing, don't bomb this coach's email or text. You've already made a great follow-up. Now the onus is on him if he is legitimately looking at you.
