Thoughts about the baseball program? Recruitment process? School? Pitching coaches? Visiting next week and would like some pointers - thanks!

Re: Mizzou
Awesome school & program on the upswing. Moving to the SEC was huge for the program. We have a friend whose 2022 kid recently commited as a position player. Like most (all?) SEC programs, you really need to check all the boxes in terms of measureables in order to get committed. I personally think very highly of their hitting coach...

Re: Mizzou
Are they actively recruiting your son, or are you visiting in an effort to generate interest? What year is he? As far as thoughts on the baseball program - it's the SEC. Toughest conference in college baseball.

Re: Mizzou
They are recruiting him. He is a 2020 grad. I just know absolutely nothing about the school - I've never even been to Missouri!

Re: Mizzou
A word of caution. When we lived there, they made phone calls to my son and several of his friends/teammates and personally invited them to the campus for camps because they were "extremely interested in him." We went and they hardly talked to him all day even though when he threw he faced 4 batters and struck out three and other one grounded out to 2nd baseman. Then when he committed, they sent word through his travel coach that they had planned to make an offer if he had considered them.

Thank-you for your feedback...all good things to consider. The AC/RC is brand new that has been speaking with my son, so hopefully they are trying to step up their game!

Re: Mizzou
I hope so. After living there three years, we have several friends/teammates that are going there so I hope they figure out how to recruit for SEC and how to win.

Re: Mizzou
Pitchingfan, any of the friends/teammates already part of the team or are they headed there this coming season/in the future? If they have been there, is there any insight you can give about the program beyond the recruiting aspect? I say this because I believe Letitgo's son is already at the "offer in hand" stage so additional program info would likely be helpful and sounds like you might be a great resource. Letitgo... hope I'm not overstepping my bounds.

Re: Mizzou
There are a couple there and a couple committed or starting this year. One has been through transition so he has mixed feelings. The ones that are starting or committed are about like mine with Tennessee. Excited for the future and hopeful that the future is what they think it will be. I think any new coaching staff in the SEC brings an excitement but also anxiety and a hope for the best. Players who commit to SEC schools know how competitive it is (not trying to be that SEC guy but winning...

I wanted to take a moment and tell you that my experience this weekend at Mizzou was very, very positive. I have had the opportunity to meet with quite a few head coaches over the last few months and I would put Coach Bieser at the very top. I found him to be professional, sincere and an odd thing to say, but compassionate. He truly cares about his players and has put so many supports in place to help with their success. He is very genuine and comfortable to be around. My son had no issues...

"... Top notch group of men I would trust to develop and grow my son as a baseball player, as well as a man." Combine this with the places he will go and experience in the SEC... can't get much better than that!! But if he does, he's gonna have to rehearse... https://www.facebook.com/ESPN/...1NjUyNDE0NDg1ODE2MA/

Congratulations. I wish the best for your son. He will have some good teammates. Hope they win except one weekend a year, UT.

A 2022 buddy/teammate of my 2021 son committed to Mizzou in mid/late August of this year. It caught everyone here by surprise except for the kid and his family. He had a really good summer with his bat and apparently Mizzou was watching at the right time. I wish the kid the best, but I've never considered him a D1 caliber player let alone an SEC D1 caliber player. If you believe the messaging the kid and family are putting out, he's getting a full ride and they 're interested in him at C, 3B...

Yeah, I was doing some research and it looks like there is something going on with Mizzou - and it's not necessarily a good thing!

Re: Mizzou Baseball
They have 20 guys in the transfer portal. To me that is not a good sign. Either they really over recruited or they are pretty ruthless on cutting kids, OR a lot of kids were really unhappy. Most schools had more than normal after last year because they didn't have roster limits, but I remembered Missouri being one that had a lot. Just looked again...its a lot.

Team trying to find its way in a very tough SEC. Cold climate for a SEC team, no turf in the outfield, a stadium that might hold 2,000. MU doesn't make the sport a priority. Seems to be the general thought. I don't think I am overstating anything with those comments

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Coach is probably in his last season unless there is a huge turnaround. They had one of the highest player turnovers among D1’s last year and I think it was the highest among those who didn’t have a coaching change or one the year before.

Mizzou Baseball
Can anyone give me any insight on Mizzou Baseball? Last thread I saw was from 2019. Wondered how the program has been going/growing since then. I see they have 50+ kids on the roster. Any insight/information anyone might have would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for all the input. It is not my kid interested (WAY too far from home) but he has a teammate that is interested and I was just trying to gather information for the kid and family. They aren't very recruiting savvy (not that I am) but I knew I could get some input here along with the research I did to help them take a more informed look at the school.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
They may be headed in the right direction, but coming off a 15-win (8 in the SEC) season and a 9-year drought of not making the NCAA tourney, they'll need to get there quick. DeLunas is a good hire but he's also Bieser's 3rd PC in 5 years and Bieser's assistant staff has been a revolving door of sorts in his 5 years there. That lack of continuity leaves current player development and recruiting on uneven ground.

50+ man roster for a sport that features 10 starters at any given time. 16 freshman. I don't care how good they are, unless your kid is being offered 50%+ it's not a situation I would want to get myself into. If he has legit interest from Mizzou, I'm sure there are plenty of other highly competitive schools, especially mid majors who would be very interested.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Can we define “competing in the SEC”? They have a conference winning percentage around .350 since 2015. How many times have you heard it here, don’t go play for a team that doesn’t win just to say you are P5, D1, etc…. Perhaps people actually act on those instincts…..

My kid plays Juco in Missouri. One of his teammates signed with Missouri St over Missouri last year. A lot of those guys view Missouri St as the better program. I think being close to Springfield impacts that though.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Competing in the SEC - a member school of the Southeastern Conference engaging in competition among other Southeastern Conference members. I don't want this to turn into a defend Mizzou post because I have no affiliation with the school nor do I particularly care about the trajectory of their program. I'd actually have very little sympathy for a school with 50+ rostered players who brought in 7 transfers this summer. I was more commenting on the idea that potential SEC athletes are passing...

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Is this really the case? How many regional choices include competing in the SEC? One? I have a hard time believing athletes with offers are staying away from a premier P5 conference to attend SLU and Missouri State. Especially considering the fact that these kids who are committing there now were in elementary school in 14/15.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
The incidents spurred on by the administration and faculty in 2015 has had a long lasting negative effect on Mizzou. Regionally there are many choices for D1 athletes that don't include the politics that Mizzou encouraged at the time and still lingers. The boys that I know that are committed, are going to schools without the additional drama. Arkansas and Missouri State have benefitted from the circus that Mizzou created. It's unfortunate, but alumni that I know have stopped donating and...

Re: Mizzou Baseball
I know at least one 2023 that has committed to Missouri State in addition to the 2022's listed above. It's not the players that have a problem with Mizzou, it's the parents. And given the parents finance the player, they generally have a say in where they attend.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
In my opinion the coaching staff was in over their heads from day one. They consistently cannot get the top 10 players in their own state much less surrounding states. When you lose the recruiting battle for instate talent to a mid major and you are an sec school you are in trouble. If you are not getting the best talent you better be great at developing players. Facilities are the worst in sec. no real plans to upgrade. When you are playing from the bottom in sec it makes a long year which...

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Mizzou is headed in the right direction. The hiring of the new pitching coach should push the pitching staff forward. They have had lots of talent the past few years but have just underperformed. The school, town, and facilities are great. Although the baseball facility isn't quite up to par with the rest of the SEC, it is still very nice. The amount of turnover has a lot to do with covid resulting in some over recruiting. It happens at every big school, but Mizzou didn't cut any players...

It will be interesting on how they get down to the 40 player limit Covid is causing an interesting game of roster management. Note, based on insights below it seems they had a veteran time. Following player attrition information is based on 2021 fall roster. Outgoing players with reasons. Unknown reasons are subject to change as we publish available rosters. Player attrition by position Fall roster has 25 new players.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
I can’t speak for now but the 2019 class they did not recruit the top players. I think they got 1 of top 10 like number 8, and never made offer to 5 of them I know for sure. Their facilities are way behind Missouri state. You have to win the recruiting battle in your state as a P5. plus they can’t compete. UT got their Friday starter. They hired a coach for small time money and won’t buy him out. I think this is his last year.

Missouri State is a superior, and more stable, program than Missouri. And Missouri State isn’t woke like Missouri is. It would be an easy choice for me.
