Re: 2011 NH Teams and Players to watch

nhmonty ·
One guys take on Portsmouth after watching them last year and without knowledge of JV team. Pitching could be thin, Taylor very good, big game experience. Good breaking ball, excellent change and pounds the strike zone, all three make him sneaky fast. O'Leary pitched some last year and did fine but not a pitcher, jury out on how he holds up as part of the rotation. After that who knows, maybe Holt (jv as fresh last year). He is a big kid and heard he throws ok but I had not seen him pitch.

spizzle, Welcome back. All our best to Sam. Being the parent of a hitter, I relate better to a 2-20, but I think they are kinda the same. I can only say that is the reason they play everyday and Sam has about 70 more games to play. I am betting Sam will be just fine when September arrives, tired, but just fine. Fun to read. Thanks for sharing.

I went to the AFLAC game at Petco last night, great to watch the kids live. I recorded the game, and watched it again when I got home to pick up another perspective. In regards to the radar readings, my son was receiving a few text messages from his buddy regarding 98 mile an hour readings, obviously it was a little off. Also, the Petco gun readings on the main scoreboard appeared to be off a little too? It had a few of the kids 3-4 miles an hour lower than PG had recorded? I guess that's...

I am betting you are asking the question because you are concerned? I know I would be! You said 3 to 4 innings which could be 40-55 pitches or so. I don't think he should be throwing from SS the next day, in game situations! If he pitched Tuesday and followed a reasonable recovery plan he should be good to go Friday in the infield. He hasn't "conditioned" his arm to that level of stress under those particular conditions. I think this scenario could be a recipe for an arm injury that could...

If you want to watch (and I mean watch, not listen) below is the link to Gulf Coasts First Pitch Classic tournament going on this weekend at their field. Right, FD, but I'm betting that they think the attendance will be better in CA, since Berkley is a larger school. I wished it was going to be here, though, since Haney, Stafford, Wilson, and Collins are my younger sons former teamates. Hopefully, it will be televised locally. At least an internet feed.

So if your son is hurting the team by his performance, what does the coach say to the other parents and kids that signed up to be on a competitive team. "Sorry, I've got to play Jr., even though he's not performing up to expectations and I've got better options, but I made him a promise." Did you make any guarantees on your son's performance? I'm betting that the coach made the assumption that he would hit better than a buck. Just my 2 cents.

I've never understood the defense of Pete Rose. Here is a man who quite knowingly violated a rule designed to protect baseball against something that has the potential to destroy it. Gambling, unlike any other illicit activity in MLB, changes the goal of any participant from what is the goal of the team into a goal of maximizing monetary gain at the potential expense of winning. This doesn't even include the fact that he thumbed his nose at MLB for the better part of two decades while...

Gov, My two cents.....I don't think you are going to find a much different academic recruit profile from Columbia from the other Ivys. The academic metrics are pretty straight forward and well documented on a thousand threads on HSBBWeb. You either have those academic metrics or you don't. The difference is the coaching and getting committments from the athletes you really want over the schools that want that recruit. The first thing I would say is, most lefties who are in the 85-86 range with 2 solid off speed pitches end up getting offers somewhere. Whether it's your top choice or not is another story, but I'm betting things work out for you in due time. I don't see any need for major surgery in your case. Three things that could maybe be fine tuned: 1. I see a noticeable reduction in arm speed on your change up. This reduces its deception. Take your change up grip and then think "fastball". Let the...

Last time I checked, he is not in charge of putting the team together. My crystal ball was working pretty well this time. Hanover wins as Jake Mayers shuts out Lake Braddock and younger brother Eric Mayers nails a 3-RBI double in the 1st on the way to a 4-0 win. Eric's ball hit off the yellow fence cap and came back into play, missing being a grand slam by maybe an inch. Deep Run loses 10-5. No report on how they played, but with Orlan pitching, I'm betting some errors contributed to those 10 runs. Hanover moves on. Their key to winning it all will be to find...

Yes, desire should have been added to my equation. While we are on this subject, I'm looking to see if parents of the successful kids, playing after college saw that "spark" early on, that almost obsession with baseball. I'm betting these boys were among this group of what I'll call a type "A" baseball personality. There was a good book out about Ted Williams, his youth. He had two hobbies, baseball and fishing. Not much hanging with friends, much about working hard on his baseball early on.

Since gambling is posted right on the clubhoue wall and always has been clear in baseball what the penalties are for gambling on baseball, The Rose ban is justified.
