Looking forward to watching Sean on TIVO tonight. At least Zambrano was able to handle Bonds quite well last night. As far as Lee goes, two fractured bones in his right wrist. Expected to be out approximately two-three months. Was placed on the DL April 20. If I were a betting man (and I'm not!), I figure Lee will return shortly after the All-Star break.

Re: Question: How much should experience count?

infielddad ·
TravelDad, I hope you will not mind my using your example to make a point about talent and experience. When players get to a college like Justbb's and beyond that, every player is hugely talented. Coaches have to find critical differences that may not be necessary in high school/travel ball. I think your post is really important because it readily demonstrates my view of the difference between talent and experience. Your son's talent got that final out. However, as he progresses, I think...

It isn't easy finding time for all sports in today's world. As a basketball coach and football coach, as well as a baseball coach, I have a son that also plays all 3. Luckily for us, our 3 head coaches get along real well and are willing to work with each other and around each other. I have been in situations where the coaches fought over times and players and told players either or.........that is not right. I liked the idea of picking up a few extra players for that specific tournament.

Re: The Count, What pitch do they throw

Stats4Gnats ·
Well GBM, I can’t fault your logic, but I will say this. In GENERAL , coaches call pitches now-a-days, and in GENERAL , you won’t see many of them having a pitcher throw an OS breaking ball 3-0. That doesn’t mean it WON’T happen because there are so many situations, to say something that definitive would show real stupidity. But typically, unless it’s a very dangerous hitter and the situation could cost the game if he clubs one, the GENERAL idea is to not walk the batter. The 1st step in...

Our youngest is a corner guy. Was recruited for his bat. Bottom line is, if you hit you play. Corners are traditionally power hitters. Son was recruited as a soph. Highest level of interest was spring his senior year. He had 4-5 schools interested. Son is now playing both corners at D1. Have your son keep doing what he his doing. It sounds like he can play any where in the infield which is of great value. But he will need to hit! Lefty

So, your saying that the shoulders are just along for the ride. Interesting. The hands do all of the work and the shoulders do nothing. I wonder what we'd see if they hit without shirts. I'm betting we'd see a lot more than you think in that shoulder region. Per the pitching and scapula loading, I've talked to several college coaches at any number of levels. I'd bet that more of them use scapula loading drills for both their catchers and pitchers than don't. Of course, if we buy into the...

Just a different view. I think this is exactly the result the Yankees wanted. They made a very generous financial offer. However, they tied it to one year and I am betting knew Joe would not accept that. Firing Torre was going to appear greatly wrong. This way, Joe is the one who walked away and now they, according to what I have read, aggressively pursue LaRussa. LaRussa, by some reports is quite interested.

StarDad, You have every right to coach your son however you want. But you should understand that every good hitting instructor will disagree with some of your theories. I'm still interested in how you came up with your ideas. Did you have a career as a player or coach? Nothing wrong if you didn't play or coach, but why not look up someone who is a proven good hitting instructor who you can trust and talk to him about hitting or better yet let him work with your son? It might help your son...

Good topic...I manage in the Tiger organization and when I put on the hit and run sign, I don't want my hitters to be thinking about anything but swinging. I want them to take a solid aggressive swing at the ball. Gentlemen, it is too hard to try and hit the ball here or there. It is hard enough to make solid contact at times. When I am putting on the sign, I am betting the pitcher is going to throw a fastball, and I don't want my hitter to give his at bat away. If I did, I would have him...

I am going to say yes to Bonds and Clemons for the Hall of Fame UNTIL there is definate proof and something done by MLB to punish them for their actions. After this is proven - kick them out or don't vote them in. As for Rose - keep him out because he violated the integrity of the game by betting. The rules are posted and there have been others banned from this. Also, his admission is pretty shady as well. He admitted in a book that he profited from. Yep...that is what the initial results/reports seem to indicate. I say this without having actually picked one up, so take it FWIW... even if the new bats are a lot like wood as far as exit speeds/velocity when striking a ball, I would be shocked if they still do not utilize a larger barrel (and subsequent "sweet spot") on the bat compared to a wood counterpart. From everything I've researched and read (and I may have indeed missed something), they are not changing the diameter of the...
