Binghamton - America East

Very local news for those of us in New York/New England area. Binghamton, the top SUNY school, just got a massive donation for 60M for an overhaul to its baseball facilities. Looks amazing. https://www.binghamton.edu/baseball-complex/

That facility is INSANE. Can't imagine it wouldn't help recruiting. Lotta glass though....

It is incredible. Glad I clicked the link. $60m for a baseball facility is a crazy amount of money.

What would really help recruiting is a dome.

Original link very much posted for the New York/North East crowd who are all too familiar with the temps. It's a cold area, clearly. But it's generally nice in the spring when they actually play ball, and one of the main appeals of this facility is that there is now a much more significant indoor footprint.

I'm sure this will help their recruiting in the Northeast, especially against Stony Brook in the same division. My 2020 was in touch with their PC/RC during his recruiting process, but never progressed.

This will help recruiting no doubt. A lot of kids you see heading to schools like SB, St. Johns, SHU, Monmouth, etc will give Bing more consideration. Beautiful facility, the most important part of that facility will not be the stadium, the locker rooms or any of that. It will be the indoor IF. Simulated games are critical considering they are indoors from Nov until likely late March.

For sure, agree with all of that. Then there’s the final item which is Bing is also a legitimately strong HA school, especially for NYS students. Many kids who don’t get into Ivys go there, and for Business and particularly accounting their proximity to NYC leads to a lot of hiring. So beyond baseball if low debt and job prospects are priorities to potential recruits, this faculty will only improve the recruitment process for the school.

Yes, unfortunately it doesn't get the love outside of NY and CT that it deserves.

It's like the best SUNY for business (Stony Brook may be better for medical). NYS has the Excelsior scholarship program which is very generous. I believe it fully covers tuition if your adjust income is 125k or below. You do have to stay a resident of NYS for a certain number of years after graduation though.

Additionally, there is a poster named "GoingWithThePitch" who wrote a book (5+ years ago) about his college baseball experience at Binghampton called: "Going with the Pitch - Adjusting to College Athletics" . He played for Binghampton a bunch of years ago and it is a good read. I'd recommend it to any aspiring college player who wants to know what it is like to play in a D1 program, or Binghampton specifically. I haven't seen him post here in a while, and it looks like he went to grad school...

Add to previous post ... Binghamton has the money to build a dome stadium ... “The 2012 price for a basic dome, excluding finish, land preparation and utilities will be approximately $14 million. This means that a finish facility will run from $20 million to $50 million total, depending on what is put inside.” https://www.monolithic.org/spo...e-art-indoor-stadium

As a former resident of the Triple Cities area (Binghamton-Johnson City-Endicott) I can attest that spring weather can be brutal. I can remember getting significant snows in late March/early April. Plus it doesn't get warm until May. Trust me. In the summer 80 F was a hot day.
