Byrd, If you can upload I would like to see it. Freddy, I get what you are saying but in the same token it does not hurt to think our of the box. I mean at one time nobody over shifted at the elite level and then they did it to Ted Williams and now they do it a lot. At one time nobody thought about adding a 5th infielder and I have seen many teams, the Rockies off the top of my head, employ and outfielder to play up the middle with the game on the line. At one time everyone held runners on...

Just returned from Stanford camp last night. Remarkably well run, especially considering the number of players and logistics. My 2014 son played on the Sacred Heart and Palo Alto HS fields in addition to Sunken Diamond; excellent facilities all around. His only complaint was the quality of the dorm food. Welcome to your future! I added the list of coaches that was sent from Coach Stotz, although there were numerous other coaches in attendance (e.g., Coach Pollard from Duke). COACH SCHOOL...

I heard an interview with Maddon that he had to learn how to deal with the young players. And you are correct that he doesn't have that pressure so he can remain loose. Although Girardi was very much liked here, he had trouble with handling the young Marlin players, which should be right up Ozzie's alley. As much as I am not a fan, looking forward to seeing him up in Jupiter at spring training. Bobby Valentine made some good points about Francona, he most likely lost trust in his players,...

Is there any chance Management planned to hire Farrell this year and they just needed someone to fill in for a year? I can see it now, "we'll pay you millions to fill in for a year but here's the catch: you're gone in one year and we need you to act like an idiot so nobody will be surprised when we let you go, and people think we're smarter for firing you than we were when we hired you". Valentine: "I can do that!" Masterfully done!! What a success! What an actor!

TR - I agree with your comment about Farrell not being a proven manager, but Valentine was a complete and total idiot when it came to dealing with todays players and media. He's the perfect example of someone out of touch who didn't evolve. I'm a manager with many 20 somethings reporting to me and the means of motivating this generation is much different than telling a 50 year old to "shut up and color" which they will do, because this is the type of feedback they're used to. Tell a 22 year...

Farrell signed a three year contract with the Jays two years ago. One year into the contract Francona was fired. Valentine was signed for two years. You do the math. Things didn't go as planned. But the Red Sox got their guy a year early. Valentine wasn't supposed to act like an idiot. He was supposed to act like a professional and win. Had the Sox won a pennant in his two years Valentine may have been retained.

Not sure if ANY man is right for ANY job. Seems like the way the last two Red Sox seasons have gone, everyone wants to argue the choice, no matter who it is. Farrell makes at least as much sense as Valentine. I say Red Sox fans should be happy, patient and see how it goes.

Ther drop off in Red Sox pitching stats since Farrell departed is staggering. He's more of a player's manager like Francona. Valentine was a joke. The media stories about Valentine are hilarious. One just titled Valentine's departure as the clown show is over.

On a day when the bats weren't going particularly well, the Falcons in support of a strong pitching performance from Ryan Mattes, came up with enough key defensive plays late to preserve a tight 3-2 win over the host Sundevils and extend their winning streak to 9 games. Cox's Ryan Mattes and Salem's Centeno both went the distance. Salem jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind an unearned run in the 2nd and a solo HR to RF from Brion. Jason Ormand started, had good command and looked very poised on the mound. The short stop, Whitehouse (I think) is excellent.

Valentine makes a good point. The Japanese have played our MLB's best, dead even over the last 15 years. The D1 Team USA has been soundly spanked each time they play their Japanese counterparts. We'll see soon enough how the WORLD matches up come March. My guess is that the US team will fare poorly if they are not ready.

As usual TR, you seem confused to the real issue at hand. Speak to the issue. The Japanese play very, very good baseball. They play the game at the amateur and professional level as well as we do. They are not quite as talented, but they practice harder and longer. The result is that they make up the talent differential by playing smarter baseball. They rarely miss a cut-off. They get bunts down 90% of the time. They run the bases with intelligence. They don't miss signs. This is what...

Personality wise Valentine is not a fit for Red Sox management. But it is very common when one kind of personality fails (easy going Francona) teams flip flop to the other kind of personality (more intense Valentine). Valentine tends not to last long with teams. But the Red Sox have a window of opportunity with the existing roster. Valentine's job would be to kick their tails to the next level. John Farrell has two years left on his contract with the Jays. Had the Sox known what was going to...

RJM, politely disagree with you that Valentine does not last long with teams. He managed the Rangers for 8 years and the Mets for 7. For a manager that's a long time. If he was the Red Sox manager for that length of term, that would mean he was pretty successful in leading the team.

Well, my team is the St Louis Cardinals. Growing up in St Louis, it makes it obvious. So of course my most hated team is the Cubs. Kinda goes hand in hand. I dont know if there are really a lot of teams that I hate. I used to kind of like the Bosox, but after they beat us in 2004, thier fans act like it is a birhtright that they should be considered the best team in baseball. I guess winning does that. And the fact that the Bobby Valentine press conference is on live TV on ESPN.

fball, I agree that both teams look good on paper, lets see who stays healthy. As far as garland everone keeps saying lets see how he does this year, I think he will do great as he finally learned how to pitch as he gets ahead in the count works faster and doesn't let things bother him as much. Also has a great pitching coach. Infield, I like both line-ups but I do like the way Uribe plays ss, a little different at times but he was one of the most underated players on the sox last year. Re: Batting practice over-rated?

Who says they aren't hitting? I doubt a player having a problem is relying on BP to fix it. He's in the cage and out taking BP at 2pm by himself uninterrupted with someone throwing BP. BP is about feeling loose and ready to play. By high school and college after a handful of swings I tried to jack everything else for fun. I actually got loose shagging flies in the outfield which is as much a social event as practice.

RJM, agree 100% I guess my point is that they need to hit either on the field or in the cage prior to game time.
