I would have to say that this team is very well put together. They have an all around approach to the way they are handling this team and it shows in their practices and meetings. I'm excited to watch my kids play for this team this year and I hope we have a great year with many more to come. The team site is awesome, whoever did their website design did an amazing job. Advice On Transferring After/ During Freshman Year

AthleteDD ·
A little background information on my recruitment. My senior year in 2018 I committed to a private D3. However, towards the end of my Spring high school season the coach that recruited me stepped down. I reached out to a local D2 university that was previously following me. This school gave me a full ride for academics and the coach expressed interest, so I came here in the fall as a walk on. Do to budget cuts (As the CIAA no longer supports baseball in conference), I was informed that the...

Notre Dame 2021

Ever since I was a kid I have dreamed of going to Notre Dame. My family is middle class and they have made many sacrifices to attempt to make my dream a reality one day. I know little about the recruiting process. The only things I know are from my own research online and from other people around me. I am a 3B primarily, however I believe I am going to DH for the rest of the year on my freshman team. I go to one of the best high schools in the state and in the nation. Although I do obviously...

Single mom of a freshman catcher looking for some helpful tips

confusedbaseballmom ·
My son is a freshman catcher and we are basically blindly guiding ourselves through the best routes to meet the goal of college ball. I’ve always tried to keep things in perspective as best as I can with him reminding him to have a backup plan, but we’ve been approached by former MLB players, college coaches, high school coaches, etc for the past 4 years or so with compliments on how advanced he is at his position and how he has the natural skills to make it to the next level. He’s played...

Freshman Future Is Now

The time is near for what the player has done before...But this time it is different. Hlgh school baseball is all these players have been talking and hearing about the past couple of years. Preparation is the first word that comes to mind when you are talking about an upcoming season. The player is either ready or is not, and the results always display themselves. With that being said, many players have been working and playing hard. Those are the players that will find themselves in...

Take the ACT sophomore year. Go to a low cost showcase to get documented numbers on velocity, exit velocity, 60 yd or whatever you can get. There are numbers that will get their attention now. Go to ND camps. Take some video, send it to ND coaches. Find a travel team that has placed a kid in ND in the past. You can search the threads on video's and just about any other thing you can think of. Keep working!

If you go to their camp (send an email before with stats and video) you will know pretty quickly if you are the kind of athlete they are going to recruit.

You can go back through rosters and look at current commitments to get an idea of the caliber of player they are taking. PG will give you some measurables for these guys. While there appear to be no 2021 commitments, there are a handful of 2020 and looks like 2019 is basically done. This should also give you some idea as to their recruiting timeline in that they may do some preliminary scouting of 2021 this summer and probably make most of their decisions by the end of 2019.

12WhiteSox12, I'm digging your passion. Keep up the hard work in the classroom and on the baseball field...good things will happen. Follow through with introductions to coaches, attend camps, but most of all you've got to understand how the numbers don't work in your favor. Getting recruited to play college baseball is a tough road. You've specifically focused on one program that may recruit anywhere from 6-12 recruits a year after seeing many, many thousands of potential recruits at...

As a Notre Dame grad, I love that you're passionate about the Fighting Irish! I agree completely with Fenway. Cast a wide net, based upon the schools in which you are both an academic fit and a baseball fit. Ultimately that list of schools may include Notre Dame. If so, that would be awesome! Now they would need to love you in return and have a spot for you. It's also possible your list ultimately doesn't include Notre Dame or similar schools because your preferences change...or you may not...

Thank you for all of your great answers. I am planning on focusing most of my attention from late June on until the next baseball season on learning as much about recruiting as I can and getting bigger, stronger, and faster in the weight room. Would it be smart to do this and introduce myself with an email to Coach Aoki at Notre Dame a couple of months before I attend a prospect camp next year, or should I send him an introductory email this summer? As mentioned before, I wasn't able to try...

Most 2021 grads are in the same boat as you. They aren’t already national class talent with national exposure. And most will never be...that’s ok. At this stage for most players enjoying HS should be a priority. If you want to play at the next level, there’s a lot you can do. Get bigger, faster, stronger. Develop your baseball skills and IQ with individual training and with team competition. Work on your standardized test scores, take a strong curriculum, get good grades. Eat and sleep...

Weather stinks for Spring sports. No question. This isn't South Carolina. And that's why my boys play in the South. I understand that some kids don't care about the weather, but mine do so they went where 50 and cloudy is a bad game day. Separately, for those who want fans'/alums' perspectives on Notre Dame baseball, the www.ndnation.com message board "Jake's Field" is where the faithful unload.

Sounds like you have great motivation - keep it up! I would not suggest taking the ACT exam until you are a Junior, nor would I suggest doing a PG event until you have something to "show." If you haven't learned the material then your test grade will suffer. If you don't know how fast you are, what your exit velocity is, or your 60 time, then a PG event is a waste of money. Not to mention that the ACT grade and the PG score/metrics will stay in the system until you improve them. Better to...

You can send an email to Coach. But all you will get is a letter explaining when they can contact you and a camp invite, which It seems you are planning to attend. Coaches are looking for players who can contribute and stay eligible. It is early in the process, keep working hard in the classroom, in the gym and on the field. Maybe in a few years you can help them, they switched conferences for football and the baseball team is pretty meh, IMO. And as Branson Baseball has said, have fun!

ND's co-recruiting coordinators usually attend the Area Code tryouts and the PBR Futures Games (which happens to be in Indiana), so try to get an invite to each with the requisite contact beforehand. You may want to reach out to them (Coaches Ristano and Woods) before (or together with) Coach Aoki. However, my son, wife and I have found them all to be super guys. We really like them.

If your coach hasn't done so already, prepare a workout plan for the summer. You'll want to be in the best physical shape when you arrive on campus. The fall practices are basically the tryouts for the spring squad. And as mentioned, keep up on your school work. Once you fall behind it is difficult to catch up. Be ready for long days. My son's days started at 5 am for a 5:30 am work out, classes until 2 pm, then practice from 3-6 pm (sometimes later). Then dinner and any homework. In bed by...

If you are like most, there will be a lot of "firsts" when it comes to making your own decisions. You decide whether to go to class or not, whether to wake up or not, whether to party or not, whether to put the extra work in, whether to study sufficiently, whether to have a positive approach to things, whether to make right choices, etc., etc. Often, given the option for the first time, young men make a lot of the wrong choices. My advice would be to go into this determined to make the right...

Here is some advice based on my college track career. Admittedly it was 25+ years ago, but I think it probably still holds true. Class, class, class. Make sure you are attending class and keeping up with assignments. Its so easy in college to start to blow off class and assignments. I know right now your saying, yea no problem, but its tough to get to that 7pm class after having practice and weight room until 6pm. This needs to be you number 1 priority. Many schools will have...

You cannot assume that you will show up in the Fall and have a spot on the roster. As other have said , you need to show up in the best shape of your life, prepared to battle for a roster spot and battle for playing time. Many D3's will have 50-75 players in the Fall, with just 35 roster spots available. And keep in mind that the coaches are out scouting this entire summer, looking for players to replace you in your Sophomore season.

I want to add to the above comments on being in the best shape of your life. Talk to your trainer or a nutritionist and find out the proper things to eat. It's easy to slack off a bit now since just graduated, a few months until college begins, you want to sleep in, relax, etc. Now is the time to develop good habits thus when college starts you can step right in and feel comfortable knowing your body and mind is where it is supposed to be. Proper nutrition and sleep will help build body mass...

You've seen tremendous advice thus far on the academic and athletic side. Don't forget about the social side, which has derailed more athletic careers than anything. Make good decisions, have fun but always stay in complete control of your actions. Earn respect by taking care of business in the classroom and on the field, not by being the life of the party. Align yourself with the upperclassmen that have taken this route and follow suit. Good luck.

Welcome!! I'm not a single mom, but as far as college recruiting goes, I might as well have been, so I feel your confusion. My son is a 2018 RHP. He'd love your son as he struggles to find catchers who aren't afraid of his FB. He's committed to the University of Iowa, which is the only D1 college program in Iowa, so despite not knowing what we were doing, he earned his way into a good program. But it literally is only about two hours away from us, so in some ways, our experience was unique.

Perfect game tournaments, the big ones in the summer (WWBA) bring out a lot of great talent and college coaches, but that is not the only (or even the best) way to be seen by the schools you want. Showcases are basically fodder for that organizations web profile for your kid (PG, PBR) and you may have someone there see your kid, but it’s more to see how you stack up against competition. Don’t spend money on Headfirst, Showball etc yet...too early. Right now I would get a list of the schools...
