Why cant i throw out runners?

rchezz ·
I'm a 14 turning 15yo catcher who starts for my team, on 90 foot field my poptime is 2.13 but we play on 80 foot bases where i play for my age. I believe my poptime is around 2 to maybe underneath it but i still can't throw out runners. runners are currently 14-15 on me but in preseason they were 4-8 and in fall they were 3-9. I pickoff guys pretty easily and all the stolen bases are close (some calls could go either way and my shortstop has dropped the ball twice). Is it my pitchers or is...

It’s impossible to tell if it’s you or the pitchers without seeing them hold runners and seeing your mechanics. Don’t assume your pop time. Get an official reading from someone who knows that they’re doing.

Are kids running at will or are they very selective of when to steal? Are slow kids stealing? Tough to tell if it is a catcher or pitcher thing. Some pitchers are really good at holding runners, others not so much

If the ball is getting to 2b in time and in a good location but the tag isn't being made, you are not at fault. Is this the same SS that you worked with last fall and in the preseason?

What sort of team is this? Single-age travel team? Multi-age high school team?

Without seeing you throw, none of us would know why you are struggling. Also, many times the problem is the pitcher. There are times when a team becomes predictable in pitch calling etc. and so the runner has an idea when a changeup or curve is being thrown. That gives them a step or two. If you are thinking about mechanics, I have two questions. First, what does your footwork look like? Secondly, are you waiting to secure the ball before loading and unloading your throw? Finally, a former...

to answer some questions here 1. I have an allstar cm3000 glove 2. I will try to get some clips of my mechanics to show on here 3. It's not the same shortstop I worked with in fall and preseason because our starting one was on the mound but I've still played with this shortstop that dropped them for about 4 years now. 4. No slow kids are stealing I wouldn't be able to look at myself in mirror if I let that happen lol, good coaches are more aggressive on the bases others are very selective.

Wilson is a round mitt and dictates two hands, Rawlings is a "one handed" fold like a 1b. Bob On Thu, Apr 25, 2024 at 9:09 PM HS Baseball Web < alerts@crowdstack.com > wrote:
