It is April 7 and WB has only 4 games left with the old SED and only 2 after this week. Rest of schedule is Peninsula and Florida teams. They play GF and OS in a4 day span a month from now but that might be it against the SED for them. These strings might need to be retitled to Ches./Suffolk Baseball. Take WB in this one but I expect the River to show up.

Re: Nanesmond River all over South County

Just got back to Suffolk after watching an exciting game. Just a note on the back and forth here...yes the field was small and I was intrigued by the severity of the slope from the plate to the outfield. Standing behind the outfield fence the batters box area had to be six feet higher which makes the field play even smaller. HOWEVER...both teams took advantage of the small field with 3 HRs each. Bottom line South County outhit Nansemond River 17 to 10. They are a very good team and will be...

I have not researched the specific reason why Mr. Ballou was eligible but there are a couple of possibilities. (1) possibly he entered college with some credit hours from AP courses and had completed his junior year academically. (2) possibly he turned age 21 by the deadline for being considered in this year's draft.

Ryanrod- The only place the subway runs is within the 5 boroughs. There is the Long Island Railroad, which runs from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties (the two counties on Long Island) in and out of the city. However, Stony Brook is pretty far out east on Long Island and I could be wrong, but I believe mileage wise it's closer to the Hamptons than NYC.

Not sure about Suffolk area, but in Chesapeake you have the Greenbrier Panthers, CBG Crush (out of Greenbrier Christian Academy), Tidewater Bombers and a few more. Look in the Beacon of the VA Pilot on Sundays and there are ads placed for area teams looking for players. You might also want to think about looking on the Peninsula, numerous teams up there are well. I live in Chesapeake and my son is playing in Hampton.

Consider this holiday offer advertising. My view of The Athletic is the first year price is so inexpensive ($30) it’s worth the price. I figure in a year they will have more columnists. What The Athletic is doing is forcing local papers to sell access to the sports pages for less than a subscription to the entire paper. I hope the Globe jumps on board to this idea.
