Spring is around the corner and with every new season it usually spurs me on to create a new list of goals, hopes and wishes for the upcoming season. I thought it might be interesting to hear some of the things you are hopeful about this baseball season.

Here is my list of “10 things I hope for this baseball season” … (with one additional non baseball wish optional).

1. That the weather in NJ is over 40 degrees this season
2. That my younger son makes his middle school team again (and has a great season)
3. That the Phillies repeat
4. That the Pirates compete
5. Than older son has a good showing in spring training
6. That older son gets assigned to a team close enough for us to visit frequently
7. That older son gets in with the RIGHT crowd
8. That both boys stay healthy
9. That the only things I hear about A-Rod is regarding what he does on the field, not off
10. That the Tar Heels win the CWS and Coach May starts his own CWS blog
11. That my daughter enjoys our first true non baseball vacation in 10 years.

Don’t be bashful what on your list…

My top 10 things I hope for this baseball season although some of them might get a rise out of some people.

1. Not to get physically attacked by a parent because I didn't start their kid ONE game

2. Not be trashed on the local radio station during a broadcase because the guy doing the broadcast thinks he can do a better job than I do although he didn't get off the bench in high school nor graduate college

3. Parents will realize that we care about their son quite a bit and want them to succeed just like they do

4. Parents to realize that we have 20 - 30 players to worry about being successful while they typically have only one to worry about

5. All fans realize that when you criticize the coach for putting on a play and it fails that the fan has the luxury of seeing how it played out while the coach has to make a snap decision

6. All fans realize that sometimes we put the perfect play on but the other team just gets lucky and beats us

7. Players and parents realize there is nothing wrong with hard work in order to succeed

8. To get through the season without having to worry about any grades or discipline problems by the players

9. Parents to realize that coaches and teachers can be valuable help in raising your children to become productive citizens if you would back us on occasion instead of coming up with every excuse under the sun as to why your son isn't wrong, didn't do what he did, etc....

10. MOST IMPORTANT ONE - to see every player I got have a healthy and great and successful year

11. ANOTHER REALLY IMPORTANT ONE - to have former players come back and let me know how I have helped them transition to the real world and be prepared for it

No matter what people think of some Coaches and the way they do their job, I personally think almost all of the Coaches have this on their mind. Thanks to all of the Coaches that care enough to take the time to do their jobs to the best of their ability!

That is so important as they grow up and away from us. Another thing, last JC college game, my sons fromer HS coach, his father in law and son came for a little bit to watch my son. Those guys really cared about my son, and not just about baseball. They were great mentors and people and I will never forget them.
Oh forgot ten things i want from my sons first year at a Junior college playing baseball.
1.Since he has moved out, occasional dinner with him would be nice
2.That he does well in school since he is on his own
3.That he continues to work hard on his game
4.That he continues to play well as he has so far, with no injuries
5. That he can get a little stronger so those balls hit to the wall will begin to make it over (one so far, about 8 not)
6.that he enjoys his teamates
7, that he is a good teammate
8.that he gets some looks
9.that he never forgets who he is and what we have taught him to stand for
10.That he continues to be fortunate enough to keep playing a game he loves

Enjoy that non baseball vaca with your daughter.
My son is a high school senior. These are the things I wish for.

1. I pray that he, his teammates and opponents stay healthy and injury free.

2. I hope that his team is successful because that is what is most important to my son.

3. I hope that my son is also successful

4. I hope that the bond created during football season with his teammates carries over to baseball season. It was unbelievable how close these kids got to each other. I just know those feelings will last a lifetime.

5. I hope parents do not start CR_P during my son’s senior year as they have in the past.

6. I wish his coaches the best, they deserve it.

7. I hope for good weather for our tournament, we need the money really bad.

8. I hope coaches who teach to hurt opponents and allow their kids to disrespect opponents, each other, the game, and fans get a ball below the waist.

9. I hope he gets to play at the next level.

10. Finally, I hope he can look back on the last 13 years of baseball and smile.
