Triple Crown Sports put on a huge Father's Day Challenge in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania during the week of June 18-19, 2011.

There was one particular game that featured a 10U matchup that had an ugly ending.

Here's the facts ... there was an umpire who was a little loose between the ears and two teams that were getting all over the umpire as well as the fans.

At the conclusion of the game, one VA team's mgr had a heated discussion with the umpire which resulted in the umpire getting in the mgr's personal space.

What happened next? The mgr choked the umpire and it was stated that it was a death grip on the umpire's throat.

Now ... What needs to be done?

Would be most interested in everyone's perspective?

Although your post attempts to place the blame on the umpire, this is a matter for the Police....

Pennsylvania has an " assault on a sports official" law...

2712. Assault on sports official.
(a) Offense defined.--A person who violates section 2701
(relating to simple assault), where the victim is a sports
official who was assaulted during a sports event or was
assaulted as a result of his or her official acts as a sports
official, is guilty of assault on a sports official.
(b) Grading.--Assault on a sports official is a misdemeanor
of the first degree.
(c) Definitions.--As used in this section, the following
words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this
subsection:
"Sports event." Any interscholastic athletic activity in a
junior high school, high school, college or university in this
Commonwealth or any other organized athletic activity in this
Commonwealth, including a professional or semiprofessional
event.
"Sports official." A person at a sports event who enforces
the rules of the event, such as an umpire or referee, or a
person who supervises the participants, such as a coach. The
term includes a trainer, team attendant, game manager, athletic
director, assistant athletic director, president, dean,
headmaster, principal and assistant principal of a school,
college or university.

Negative, I did not try to place the blame on anyone as I was looking for others perspective on this ugly situation.

This VA team is a hosting a 10U Cal-Ripken World Series event come next month and from what I understand, the mgr in question (is the league's president) and I don't believe anything is going to be done about since he's coaching the World Series team as parents are afraid to do anything about it.

Is the umpire in PA going to press charges?

The facts as posted above.....this umpire....loose between the ears?......and then the umpire got into the coaches personal space?.... is the same coach who then chokes him?......

I'm hoping that the umpire presses charges, but its probably doubtful since the Police should have been called at the time of the assault....

As a tourney director, I would have called the police myself.....what a disgrace.....and at a 10U game....and your telling me the parents are afraid to say anything about the example this coach is setting for 10 year olds?...

I've got to be honest I've never understood assaulting an umpire....hopefully the umpire controls himself and calls the police...yet, as an umpire, I believe that a man has a right to defend himself.....

and attacking an armored turtle....(chest protected/cup shin guards and steel plate shoes)....and armed with a steel mask...any coach who assaults an umpire should expect to spend time healing from the lacerations that mask could inflict in defense........

probably.......between MST and I, I am sure we could.....yet, a simple internet search reveals no record of the incident.....so it seems highly improbable that the police were ever involved.....

At this point all that could be accomplished would be to offer our sympathies to this umpire.......who most probably would just like the incident to go away.....
Akadema posted on the Va site as well, and was given some pretty good information.Starting to appear his interest is not in the welfare of the players, but more interested in promoting gallery drama.Akadema it would be nice if you would post the actions you have taken to retard this type of activity,as opposed to having others acting as a shield for your real intentions, sorry, but all right already! Mad angry
Teams from this program should not be allowed to compete in the tourament next year. The manager should be banned from the tournament for ten years (his kid would be twenty by then). The manager should be charged with battery.

There's no excuse for this behavior. I've coached a couple of games where I could have throttled the umpire if I was insane. The best I could do was get up enough sarcasm to be tossed.
