I am not against young players wearing chest protectors.
I may be wrong, and please correct me, but my understanding is that the bunt to be executed properly is the bat is placed at eye level, that's pretty hard even for ML players to do, fear of getting hit in the face, so therefore the bat is lowered to the chest.

It is so tragic that this happens. Do we need to mandate a defribillator at every complex?

Unbelievable that they did not have a portable defib on site. I thought it was pretty much SOP for all youth associations these days. At our old park; All Coaches has to be trained in their use and a unit was placed in each Snack bar (coaches have keys if they need access during practice sessions).

This could have, should been preventable.

I learned about commotio cordis in a college course I took this past semester that focused on coaching/training athletes and signs of injuries and how to avoid them. It is SOP to have a defib on site, and it is a requirement that every coach in my state (that coaches for a school) is certified in CPR and knows how to use a defib.

Despite the fact that this park didn't have a defib, and most certainly should, the blame cannot be placed on a singular individual for this tragedy. Commotio cordis is a rare and sudden injury.

My prayers go out to Hayden Walton's family and friends.
