Yesterday, 2 former Marcus Baseball Players, 2006 grads, signed their letters of intent w/Mt. View Junior College.
This signing brought a huge smile to my face along with tears.......You ask why........
I personally feel that each of these young men had the talent to play ball after HS but after their senior season they each felt that maybe it was time to put the glove/ball/bat away.
This past year they were attending 2 different colleges traveling on 2 different paths and during that year w/out baseball they both realized that the love/passion for the game was still burning inside.
On their own, and with limited help of others, in fact I am not so sure their parents even knew what they were up to, they started conditioning and seeking out opportunities/tryouts. Each had offers from a couple different places but amazingly they ended up together at Mt. View Junior College.
I am thrilled for Jared M. and Jayson B. because they did this on their own and by doing so they will each have an opportunity to continue playing. As a parent this thrills me in knowing that they were mature enough and wise enough to give it a try. Win/lose/draw they would now know in their hearts, years down the road, that they not only felt a need but they pursued a dream and took a chance and hopefully eliminated a would'va/could'va/should'va moment years down the road.......
I know there are many others out there that have done the same thing that these guys did and for that I take my hat off to them as well. The intent of this post was to share a feel good story and to pass on to others that sometimes taking a chance pays off but not taking a chance can leave a big hole in your heart for years to come.
There are few times in our lives when taking a chance comes at a small price.
Young men and women, before you come to the point in your life where you have to bear the sole responsiblity for putting a roof over your head, before you are at a point where others are financial dependent on you, before you are struggling to pay for diapers, before you get into a cycle of debt (credit cards) and esp. while you are lucky enough to have your parents as part of your support system then think to yourself that this just might be the best time of all to take a chance that could change your life.
Make Good Choices, Listen to Your Heart and Have a Plan.
