2 Tone gloves on Pitchers

Does anyone know if this is the correct ruling and if so where in the rule book can you find it.

If a ball is batted to a pitcher who is wearing a 2 tone glove and is thrown out, if the batting team appeals the call does the rule state the batter is safe and gets 3rd base. This happened to our team this past weekend, we were tied 8-8 and the runner who got 3rd represented the winning run. Needless to say 2 pitchs later passed ball and they won the game. Is this really the ruling on this??

Please advise!!!

This is found in the Baserunning Awards Table under rule 8-3 of the NFHS Baseball Rules. The award is three bases for "Fair batted ball contacted with detached player equipment or illegal glove/mitt" and is determined from base occupied at time of infraction.

What is NFHS Baseball rules? Is the baserunning awards table in every rule book? Is this the official rule book? I am looking online and can't find any reference to it.

NFHS = National Federation of State High School Associations.

The Fed rule book has a couple of tables that make reading a little easier, but these are not found in the Official Rules of Baseball as published by the Sporting News.

What level of baseball are you asking about?

If the glove was deemed distracting by the umpire and therefore illegal it should have been removed from the game long before the player threw a pitch. Sounds like a case where some preventitive umpiring would have been justified. Do the pitcher a a favor and buy a single colored glove (black or tan).

It is select Baseball USSSA 10U AAA these kids are 10 yrs. old playing open base by the rules of professional baseball.

I do believe MLB has new rules where the glove can be two tones as long as not distracting---it will be up to the umpires to determine the distraction

Jo,

knowing now that you are playing select USSSA baseball, and not high school baseball, my answer to your original post is no, this is not correct.

USSSA plays under the Official Rules of Baseball (OBR.) There are no such penalties in OBR for touching a fair batted ball with an illegal mitt.

The 3 base penalty for this is a Fed (high school) rule.
