Pretty good calls there!
Congrats to Ricky Henderson and Jim Rice.
Don't think I will be traveling, on July 26, to Cooperstown this year. But a great time, and
highly recommended.
Henderson is in on first year of eligibility, Rice on his 15th and final try.
Not sure why it's taken the Baseball Writers' Association of America to have the minimum of 75% of the voters to get into the Hall and select Jim Rice.
Henderson got 94.8% of the 539 writers voting this year)
Rice got 76.4% of the vote.
Dawson = 67%
Blyleven = 62.7%
Bert Blyleven, coaching in an geezers camp at Ft Meyers FL, spoke out being vocal vs the sports writers ('it's frustrating' ....but the writers
are the way they are..... ')
2010 ballot may be shorter than 2009 with
the following Top 2010 newcomers:
Roberto Alomar,
Barry Larkin,
Edgar Martinez (& a fan favorite)!
Other totals - 2009 vs 2008
Lee Smith: 44.5% vs 43.3%
Jack Morris: 44.0% vs 42.9%
Tommy John 31.7% vs 29.1% (last year eligible)
Tim Raines 22.6% vs 24.3%
Mark McGwire 21.9% vs 23.6%
Alan Trammell 17.4% vs 18.2%
Dave Parker 15.0% vs 15.1%
Don Mattingly 11.9% vs 15.8% (A surprise)
Dale Murphy 11.5% vs 13.8%
Harold Baines 5.9% vs 5.2%
Due to low '09 totals -
Ineligible for future ballots:
Mark Grace (4.1%);
David Cone (3.9%);
Matt Williams (1.3%);
Mo Vaughn (1.1%);
Jay Bell (0.4%);
Jesse Orosco (0.2%);
Ron Gant 0;
Dan Plesac 0; (looks great on MLB Network!)
Greg Vaughn 0.
cheers
