This is a big time of year for many of our members. I can remember the feelings well. Uncertainty, relief, regrets, accepting things for what they were, the whole baliwick of emotions...

I will link this thread into the pro forum as well. Please post here immediately when there is news to report. I won't mention any names here but we have many prominent members who will hopefully hear their sons' names called.

Mitch Haniger from Cal Poly/Archbishop Mitty HS (younger son's former HS teammate) to the Brewers in the supplemental round (pick #38).

You will not find a nicer kid and family. I cannot express enough how happy I am for this family and young man. If/when he makes it to the show, you can know you are rooting for a class-1A individual.

I know former hsbaseballweb radio guest, Coach Bill Hutton from AMHS is one happy and proud coach tonight. Wink

Lucas's injury was probably the only reason he was still available but all indications have been that he is recovered and ready for the next phase of his pitching career! Best of luck!

That Giolito - Strasburg combo sounds VERY intimidating

I cant believe the METS didnt take Stroman and keep him here at home! great kid, great talent and work ethic! But,,at least now Big Grin I can root for him when he is shutting down the Yankees real soon! He is ready to go! I would not be surprised to see him up by end of the year or next year.! Congrats Marcus!

"It is not the size of the dog, but the fight in the dog" ! The teams that passed on him because of his size will be upset when he performs as he can and already has! -possible long term closer stuff!
K Complex- Marcus has been trying to make the acronym "HDMH" popular for a while now. He says that stands for "Height Doesn't Measure Heart." I agree nonetheless, great kid. I've shared a field with him for years at various tournaments and whatnot and I can attest to his talent...I'm fortunate enough to never have had to hit against him but I've witnessed plenty of hitters that had no idea what to do with his stuff.

Another note on Marcus Stroman- he devours any pitching information he receives. I had a brief conversation with him about a month ago about long tossing and between outing workouts. After I told him my opinion on something, he waited a day to respond and came back with a handful of very good questions pertaining to what I'd said. It was obvious he took the information, went out to learn more about it, and then wanted to formulate his ideas after the fact. I can only imagine how responsive he is to pitching professionals if he's that responsive to a fellow college pitcher.

Congratulations to Andrew Velazquez, Lucas Giolito, and their poster parents. I'm sure there will be more to come in day three.

A few years ago, I was able to put together a list of HSBBW draftees for 2007-2009 (halfway down the page) but since I am not nearly as active here as before, it has been difficult to filter the actual sons of HSBBW from their friends and teammates in these congratulatory threads in order to build subsequent lists. Plus, there are many new, unfamiliar-to-me posters that ought to be recognized for their sons' success.

Maybe someone can help compile those from 2010 through this year's draft so we can follow them through their careers. Just this past weekend I was at a River City Rascals game against the Evansville Otters. It was nice to find a familiar name and see Eric Massingham keeping the dream alive in the Frontier League.

I like to refer back to these lists and check our player's progress using the MiLB player search tool. I always wanted to create a link to their MiLB page but something usually came up and that project was abandoned. Nevertheless, it isn't too difficult to cut and past the last name on the MiLB link and go from there.

There is also the Where Are They tab on the left side of the HSBBW pages, but the records don't appear to have been updated in years.

Again, congrats and best wishes to all our sons.

I have a presentation due tonight at 6 for class. However, as you can see as evidenced by the multiple tabs opened up (especially on the left side of my screen), I'm trying to do the same. Good thing my presentation is about current ethical dilemmas in Major League Baseball, so I can say its multi-tasking pertaining to the discussion topic!

Thank you CD for posting when you recognize a websters son's name.
Congrats to Rusty, I am not sure if he has any eligibility left, it doesn't matter, go for it!

I am so happy for Jon Grabe that his son finally got his chance. It's been quite a number of years of discussion between us, I am so glad it finally has happened.

Florida signee from the same HS as son, Lewis Brinson (LB)drafted first over all by the Texas Rangers has a very hard decision to make. LB is going to be one of those guys you will hear about in the future.

Nice to <see> you TMM Dad. Smile

Congrats to all!
I would like to thank everyone here for your kindness, and sharing in the excitement our family is experiencing! I am so relieved that this day has come!

I look back on the day when my son was 8 or 9 and he looked at me and asked: "Dad, do you think I could be a professional baseball player", what is a father to say but YES?!

I am SO happy this day to know that I did not mislead or lie to my son that day.

It has been a long journey to get to this point, and it has been filled with every emotion from joy to the dispair we felt when my son underwent surgery on his lower tibia.

A new chapter has begun, one that we will not be able to enjoy close up, but enjoy it we will! Thank you to everyone that has counseled me over the years and provided me with encouragement!

Congratulations to all the other posters sons whose name was called.
